The navy's supply ship, the tanker, HMNZS Endeavour, was also believed to have had engine problems which left it drifting briefly in the Hauraki Gulf last month.
HMNZS Te Mana had problems with its diesel engines during exercises as it crossed the Tasman to Sydney with its sister ship HMNZS Te Kaha.
The following month Te Kaha had an engine failure as it was about to undertake a replenishment at sea with Endeavour in the Hauraki Gulf.

HMNZS Te Kaha is scheduled to sail from Auckland on June 28th for Darwin where she will join the Navy's replenishment ship HMNZS Endeavour and participate in the Australian Defence Force sponsored exercise KAKADU IV to be held in the Darwin area from July 28 to August 13.
I have no doubt that HMNZS Te Kaha and its crew will achieve the same very high standards on this deployment to the Gulf as their predecessors did on their missions, concluded Mr Bradford.
HMNZS Wellington served with the MIF in late 1995 for three months until early 1996 when she was replaced by HMNZS Canterbury and earlier this year a six person boarding party served on United States Navy ships with the MIF.

Following the alteration in course, the HMNZS Te Kaha was virtually directly astern to the west of the Sylvan Arrow and travelling east at 19 knots.

Te Mana will be joined by a P3 Orion in April, and is expected to remain with the Coalition Task Group until late June.

Te Kaha has been patrolling the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman since the middle of last month as part of a multinational taskforce against terrorism.
One of Te Kaha's roles is to stop and inspect some of the hundreds of vessels of all sizes in the Arabian Sea to block the movement of al Qaeda terrorists and Taleban elements who may be moving between Afghanistan, Pakistan and other Middle Eastern countries.
Te Kaha will be relieved by its sister ship, HMNZS Te Mana, which leaves Auckland tomorrow.

Endeavour is a 12,390-ton replenishment tanker, built by Hyundai in South Korea and commissioned in 1988.

The 177 men and women onboard Navy frigate HMNZS TE MANA will commence a six month deployment when she sails from Devonport Naval Base at 10:00am Tuesday 31 January.
The ship will participate in three operational exercises with sister ship HMNZS TE KAHA and the Royal Australian Navy off the East Coast of Australia during February.
TE MANA will then conduct a 4 ½ month deployment to South East Asia and India, completing a series of defence diplomacy visits before returning to New Zealand on 21 July 2006.

Mar 27, 2003 12:46 PM Hundreds of family and friends gathered in Devonport to welcome home sailors returning from an extended tour-of-duty on the frigate HMNZS Te Kaha.
Te Kaha was on its way home in November from a four month deployment in South East Asia when Prime Minister Helen Clark ordered it to divert to the Middle East to support America's war on terror.
The wife of the frigate's Lieutenant Commander Matthew Williams, Claire Williams, said it had been a difficult time, especially leading up to the war on Iraq.

The County Court heard that the 39,000-tonne Mobil tanker Sylvan Arrow left a 30 to 50-metre-wide slick of oily water on December 18 after leaving Melbourne's Holden Dock for Noumea.
The spill was discovered when New Zealand warship HMNZS Te Kaha saw the slick and reported it to Australian authorities.
The Te Kaha photographed the spillage and alerted the tanker's captain, Javed Bhombal, who stopped the flow of oily water by shutting off the bilge pump.
