Atlantic Highly Migratory Species (HMS); Pelagic Longline Fishery; Final Rule [Rules and Regulations] [07/06/2004]
As part of that strategy, the HMS Management Division has identified the improvement of recreational fishery data and angler education as items to be considered in Amendment 2 to the HMS and Billfish FMPs.
Because vessels authorized to fish for swordfish and tunas with pelagic longline gear must possess a tuna longline permit, a swordfish permit (directed or incidental), and a shark permit (directed or incidental), the maximum number of vessels potentially affected by this final rule is 303 (the number of swordfish permits issued).
Other sectors of HMS fisheries such as dealers, processors, bait houses, and gear manufacturers, some of which are considered small entities, might be indirectly affected by the preferred alternatives.

EPA: Federal Register: Atlantic Highly Migratory Species (HMS); Pelagic Longline Fishery
Estimated 2002 Bycatch of Sea Turtles in the U.S. Atlantic HMS Pelagic Longline Fishery Pelagic longline gear consists of a mainline, often many miles long, suspended in the water column by floats and from which baited hooks are attached on leaders (gangions).
However, management measures for the entire HMS pelagic longline fishery are necessary because, based upon available information, the sea turtle ITS established in the June 14, 2001, BiOp has been exceeded as a result of fishing activity occurring outside of the NED.
Other sectors of HMS fisheries such as dealers, processors, bait houses and gear manufacturers might be indirectly affected by the proposed alternatives, particularly the shift to required circle hooks and bait types, and the required turtle bycatch mitigation gears.

HMS Hampshire in the Orkneys, on which Lord Kitchener and 650 others died, is very much a war grave.
In fact she was destroyed by the gunfire of HMS Rodney and, to a lesser extent, HMS King George V (Admiral Sir John Tovey, RN) and finished off by a combination of torpedo hits from HMS Dorsetshire and the efforts of her crew to scuttle her.
HMS Victorious certainly played her part, but it was the Swordfish aircraft from HMS Ark Royal that obtained the crucial hit that slowed the Bismarck down sufficiently for Tovey to catch and kill her.

Since HMs receive very dense glycinergic (Gly) as well as GABAergic innervation they are an ideal system to study both pre- and postsynaptic modulation of inhibitory synaptic transmission.
We excised outside-out somal patches from rat HMs and Gly was applied using either a picospritzer or piezo stack translator.
Through kinetic modeling we determined that ethanol's potentiation of the glycine response arises from an increase in the glycine association (kon) and a decrease in the glycine dissociation (koff) rate constants, resulting in increased affinity of the Gly-R for Gly.
