On 24 May 1941, accompanied by the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen[?], she was engaged in battle by the British battlecruiser HMS Hood and the newly commissioned battleship HMS Prince of Wales, which was still being worked up.
On 26 May, at dusk, she was attacked by British Swordfish torpedo planes from the aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal.

HMS Firedrake, an 'F' class Destroyer, was ordered under the 1932 program on the 17th March 1933.
In June she was detailed, with HM ships Coventry, Southampton, Havelock, Fame, Beagle, Delight and Echo, to rendezvous with and escort a convoy of eight merchant ships between Harstad and the Clyde.
On 4th August, together with HMS Achates, the Firedrake was ordered to hunt a U-boat which had been bombed by aircraft in position 59° 48’ N, 05° 30’ W, but no trace of this submarine was found.

HMS Anson, Cumberland and 3 destroyers reached their covering position S of the convoy on 27th, where they patrolled until the 29th to guard against an attack from the S. iv.
HMS Bramble and Northern Gem, SS Chester Valley and one straggler were still not with the convoy, but sailing to the north.
HMS Vizalma, Lt. J.R. Angleback, RNVR, escorting SS Chester Valley, which had became separated from the convoy in a storm on 28th December, and was proceeding to Murmansk independently of the convoy.

In 1942, HMS Onslow is transferred to the Mediteranean where she takes part as an escort for convoy supplying Malta.
In September, together with HMS Faulknor and HMS Impulsive, she sinks three U-boots, and in cooperation with the Swordfish plane from HMS Avenger, she sinks another U-boot.
HMS Onslow participated also in the Battle of the North Cape resulting in sinking of the Scharnhorst, and in Normandy landings in 1944.

HMS Codrington was built by Swan Hunter at Wallsend, and launched 7th August 1929, she was bombed and sunk in Dover Harbour 27th July 1940.
HMS Achantes, H.12 Built at Clydebank and launched 4th October 1929, sunk on the 17th December 1942 while engaging Admiral Hipper in the Barents Sea.

The 'O' class was ordered on September 3, 1939, with the HMS Oribi being the first completed in July 1941.
I chose to model the HMS Onslow with her lattice mast.
This kit does require a lot of work to make a decent model, but with the addition of the WEM PE set and the modifications per Nat Richards, it can be turned into a very good model.

On New Year's Eve in 1942 the then 19-year-old was serving as a torpedo man aboard the destroyer HMS Achates.
Achates was "laying smoke" around a convoy steaming toward Murmansk in the Soviet Union when she was hit by two shells from the German battleship Hipper that used the poor visibility to its advantage.
Achates was doomed and quickly began to sink, rolling 90 degrees as she did so.

The newest addition to the Royal Navy’s carrier force, HMS Victorious, having been commissioned on 15 May 1941 under Captain Henry C. Bovell, RN, was currently at Liverpool preparing for her shakedown cruise.
HMS Victorious actually embarked 800Z Flight on 11 May. Eight days later, as she moved into the Clyde, 825 Squadron flew aboard.
On 12 May, HMS Furious had departed Greenock under the protection of HMS London, and sailed for Gibraltar carrying 40 RAF Hurricane IIs and nine FAA Fulmar IIs of the new 800X Flight, the lot being destined for Malta.

Not one ship in the convoy was lost, our losses were R.N. the Bramble, Achates lost and Onslow damaged, the Jamaica was hit but the shell passed through one side and out the other on the forecastle deck.
That night the Achates hit a mine, and the young man, along with many others, was killed.
