HMNZS Achilles was a Leander class cruiser (7200 tons) (from 1936, Improved Leander class), built in Birkenhead, England and launched (as HMS Achilles) on 1 September 1932.
In the early morning of 13th December a force of Achilles, HMS Ajax and HMS Exeter detected smoke on the horizon, which was confirmed to be a pocket battleship, thought to be the Admiral Scheer, at 0616.
Achilles took some damage, her captain, W.E. Parry RN being injured, but fortunately only four crew members were killed in the battle, compared to 36 of Graf Spee's crew killed.

On September 2 the ship was reassigned to cover Allied shipping along the west coast of South America, and in October Achilles joined Commodore Harry Harwood's South American Squadron— HMS Exeter and Ajax—which fought the German pocket battleship Admiral Graf Spee on December 13 off the River Plate.
In 1948 she was recommissioned as RIN Delhi, flagship of the Royal Indian Navy, and she took part in the seizure of the Portuguese colony of Goa in 1961.

The Task Group (TG) visited anumber of African ports on their way to the Far East and Indian Ocean, including South Africa, a vist that visit caused some controversy back in the UK at the time.
The TG visited a varietyof ports in the Far East and took part in a number of exercises, and Achilles assisted in the evacuation of Britishnatonals from war-torn Vietnam.

HMS Kent, armoured cruiser of the Monmouth Class, launched 6th March 1901 and served in the China Station 1906 -1913.
At the outbreak of World War One she was sent to the Falklands and took part in the Battle of the Falklands, 8th December 1914, sinking the German light cruiser, Nurnberg.

HMS Warrior went to Gibraltar and Sierra Leon before joining the Grand Fleet in December 1914.
