In 2002, I left HMS to join a technology consulting company, which enabled me to work at the pharmaceutical company Biogen Idec, Inc.; this also provided me more time to start a small company which provides technology integration and computational biology research services.
In 2004, I rejoined HMS as a part-time scientist.
The Acorn worm has been designated a model organism by the NIH, and we expect to have the genome sequenced by the end of 2006.

After commanding in another small frigate, Collingwood was promoted to 64 gun ship of the line HMS Sampson, and in 1783 he was appointed to HMS Mediator and posted to the West Indies, where he remained until the end of 1786, again, together with Nelson, preventing American ships from trading with the West Indies.
In that year, he was appointed captain of HMS Prince, the flagship of Rear Admiral George Bowyer in the Channel Fleet.
As captain of the HMS Barfleur, Collingwood was present at the Glorious First of June.

 HMS Drake sunk in  Rathlin Bay
Shortly afterwards HMS Brisk following up on her charges made a sweep up the Sound and was hit by one torpedo amidships causing a catastrophic explosion which broke her in two, the bow section sank in the Sound and the stern section was eventually towed into Londonderry - the explosion killed thirty-one seamen.
There were suggestions that to save her an attempt was going to be made to beach her in Church Bay, unfortunately the degree of list became critical and she was abandoned to capsize in eighteen metres of water a few hundred metres from the shore.
H.M.S. Brisk was built in 1910, a type H (Acorn) destroyer with a top speed of 27 knots.

Milton James Rhode Acorn was born in Charlottetown on March 30, 1923.
At the time of Milton's death, Wayne Ray was about to publish Whiskey Jack (HMS Press); Chris Faiers was about to publish A Stand of Jackpine (Unfinished Monument Press); and I had agreed to edit The Uncollected Acorn for Deneau Publishers.
Acorn's opinion aside, his real influence lay in his ready encouragement of younger poets.

HMS Arno was a unique destroyer of the Royal Navy that saw service and was lost during World War I.
She was building in Genoa, Italy for the friendly Portuguese Navy as Liz in 1914 when she was bought by the Royal Navy for service in the Mediterannean.
She was lost off the Dardanelles after a collision with the Acorn / H class destroyer Hope.

Petty Officer Sephton was a director layer on HMS Coventry, when she was attacked by two German Stuka aircraft, as she was going to the assistance of a hospital ship, on 18th May 1941.
On the morning of 31st December, 1942, Captain Sherbrooke, of HMS Onslow, was the senior officer commanding the escorting destroyers on an important convoy to North Russia, when contact was made with a far superior force, including the heavy German Cruiser Hipper, that was attempting to sink the convoy.
HMS Onslow was hit and Captain Sherbrooke, although wounded in the face and eye, continued to instruct his ships until the Onslow, severely damaged, forced him to disengage.
