  HMS Alamein (D17) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
HMS Alamein (D17) was a Battle-class destroyer of the British Royal Navy.
She was named in honour of the Battle of El Alamein, which took place in 1942 during the Second World War, between Commonwealth forces and the German Afrika Korps.
In 1948, Alamein, along with her sister-ship Barrosa, escorted the carrier Vengeance for exercises in Northern and Home waters, though she did not join the two on their subsequent visit to Northern Ireland.

HMS Gabbard on her speed trials 8th January 1947.
Denis Sherringham's first ship in 1948 was HMS Aisne, in his book, "Swing the Lamp, Jack Dusty, So I Joined the Navy" he devotes 3 chapters to Aisne, I have copies of the book available at £8 (published price £9.50).

This is the Tri-ang Minic Ships model of HMS Jutland one of the Royal Navy's "Battle" Class destroyers all of which were named after famous historical battles.
Tri-ang Minic produced identical models of the two Group 2 "Battle" Class destroyers HMS Alamein and HMS Jutland which were distinguished only by the model number and name marked on the underside.
The company also produced models of the two Australian "Battle" Class ships HMAS Anzac and HMAS Tobruk which differed from the models of the British ships in the shape of the "director" tower at the rear of the bridge and in the number of anti-aircraft weapons on the models.
