Athene wiggles a finger in her ear at the sudden buzzing, and darts over to Xavior quickly, eying the swarm with some trepidation "What in the name of Hephaestus' Hernia is THIS?" Xavior puuls Athene in and slams the door shut behind them.
Athene takes a few deep breaths as she looks at the gnats, then with a little ancient greek on her breath, she starts to sway, then seems to be dancing on the spot.
Athene tosses her hair back from her faces and shakes her hands out "Malachios" she says, rudely Xavior smiles widely, good job Athene, that was too cool.

In response to James Crowden’s enquiry about HMS Athene, my father was Able Seaman Albert Edward Bridgeman on board the ship at the same time as your grandfather.
One of his treasures is a picture of the entire crew taken on board the HMS Athene at a port in America.
From conversations with my father I drew the impression that the “Athene” was fortunate to have, generally, a friendly and happy crew and I am certain he enjoyed his time aboard her.

Four 4 Fairey Albacores of 832 Squadron, from HMS Victorious, emerged from the cloud abeam of Tirpitz and the destroyer Friedrich Ihn and began to dive to an immediate attack.
In January 1944, the squadron was augmented by 4 Wildcat Vs of 1832 squadron, embarking in February 1944 in HMS Athene and HMS Engadine for Katukurunda, Ceylon in April 1944.
In May 1944, the squadron joined HMS Illustrious for an attack on Sourabaya, subsequently transferring to HMS Begum for trade protection duties in the Pacific ocean until the squadron was disbanded in February 1945 in the UK.

In 1944 Douglas returned to the U.K. and joined the destroyer HMS Impulsive serving in home waters and escort duties for the Normandy Invasion.
After the war he left the navy and joined friends to sail to South Africa in a 120ft ketch, as their navigator, this 6-month journey down the East coast of Africa involved many running repairs en route.
