  H.M.S. AMEER
H.M.S. Ameer arrived in Trincomalee on June 27th and was to spend her first month in the area operating as a ferry carrier.
HMS Ameer was to form part of the force of six CVEs sent to reoccupy Singapore, Ameer, Emperor, Empress, Hunter, Khedive, and Stalker.
H.M.S. Ameer arrived on the Clyde November 18th and began to be de-stored ready for return to the US Navy.

In spite of HMS Ramillies' severe damage there were no fatalities on board and injuries were limited to one broken arm and some bumps, bruising and concussion.
Signalman Harry Barnet was watching from the deck of HMS Ramillies and was horrified to see the track of a second torpedo, which appeared to be heading directly towards his ship.

In fact, only HMS Balsam took longer to build (19 months and 12 days).
On the afternoon of 20 September 1943 HMCS St Croix was sunk by U-305, however there was no ship immediately available to rescue the survivors, so over 100 men spent the night in open boats until they could be picked up in the morning.
Eventually HMS Polyanthus was detailed to screen the rescue of St Croix's surviviors, but she was not heard from, so Itchen went off looking for her – Polyanthus had beensunk by U-952 with one survivor being picked up by Itchen.

 HMS Royalist
In May 1945 the ROYALIST took part in Operation "Dracula", the assault on Rangoon, flying the broad pendant of Commodore G N Oliver, AC21; and later that month, in Force 61 which was led by the QUEEN ELIZABETH, participated in Operation "Dukedom" with the aim of intercepting Japanese ships in the Malacca Strait.
On 18/20 June 1945, still as the flagship of 21st Carrier Squadron, the Royalist took part in Operation "Balsam" which had the dual object of photographic reconnaissance over southern Malaya, and fighter strikes against Sumatra airfields.
The ROYALIST left Trincomalee on 10 August 1945 with Force 61 of the East Indies Fleet to attack shipping and airfields in the Penang and Medan areas, but in view of Japan's offer to surrender, the operation ("Carson") was abandoned.

 Beacon Hill Park History - Chapter 6 - 1889
In the foreground is the HMS Swiftsure, British flagship in the Pacific during the 1880s.
The sailing ship H.M.S. Amphion hit a reef on November 6, 1889 but was able to return to Victoria for repairs.
H.M.S. Amphion carried the vice-regal party and, while travelling in fog, struck a sunken reef off Killett Bluff, Henry Island.

He joined the Royal Navy in 1770 where he served on HMS Hunter and became a Midshipman in 1771 serving on HMS Crescent and HMS Ranger.
In 1790 he became Captain of the sloop HMS Falcon, followed by service on HMS Medea and HMS Providence.
In 1797 he commanded HMS Director at the battle of Camperdown and as Captain of HMS Glatton in 1801 took part in the battle of Copenhagen, after which he was commended for his bravery by Admiral Nelson.

Fate: Sunk 15 July 1943, in the Atlantic, in position 28°20'N, 13°17'W by a VP-92 PBY-5A Catalina piloted by Lieutenant R. Finnie, and British destroyers HMS Rochester, Mignonette and Balsam.
Homing in on the contact, a fully surfaced u-boat was sighted exchanging fire with two British corvettes, HMS Mignonette and HMS Balsam, and the sloop HMS Rochester, of the convoy's escort group, whose depth carges had forced U-135 to the surface.
