The second HMS Barfleur was designed by Battle of Cape St. Vincent (1797) on the lines of the Royal William, 100, of 1719, and launched at Battle of Cape Finisterre on 30 July 1768, as a 90-gun A-Z Index Chatham Dockyard.
Barfleur, Captain Edward Vernon, was the flagship on this occasion of the fleet commander Vice-Admiral Thomas Pye.
After the conclusion of the Napoleonic wars, Barfleur spent some years in the fleet reserve (the Ordinary) at Sir Robert Calder, and was finally broken up there in January 1819.

This ship is not to be confused with the HMS BARFLEUR that was ordered and laid down in 28 October 1942, commissioned in 1944 and served with distinction in WWII, present at the formal surrender in Tokyo Bay of Japan in 1945.
HMS BARFLEUR was part of Admiral Richard Howe’s fleet at the Glorious First of June, 1794, against France’s Rear Admiral Villaret-de-Joyeuse, when the British defeated the French.
HMS BARFLEUR then flew the flag of Vice Admiral W. Waldegrave at the Battle of Cape St. Vincent, fought on February 14, 1797.

 HMS TILBURY
Richard Eason, mariner of H.M.S. Tilbury, married Frances Hern, spinster of Alverstoke, at A[lverstoke?] (ref. Hampshire Allegations for Marriage Licences Granted by the Bishop of Winchester: 1689-1837).
HMS Chatham was renamed Tilbury for the last four years of her life; she was then broken up at Chatham.
Ewart "transferred to HMS Tilbury and went to Yalta", where he met Prince Cyril Orlof who was trying to make contact with the Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna and attempt to persuade her to take passage out of Russia on a Royal Navy vessel.

The first Royal Navy ship I joined in April '63 was HMS Berwick, a Type 12 Frigate of the Rothesay class.
Now Barfleur and its dramatic sequel at La Hogue a few days later regained not only the Channel superiority for the English but settled decisively the Anglo-French naval struggle during the War of English Succession.
The combined assembled fleets for the battle of Barfleur aggregated nearly 140 ships, with possibly the world's greatest clash at sea in prospect: three fleets waiting on a wind for fame or fortune - or crushing defeat.

However, the ship Bennett commanded in 1712, HMS Lenox, did indeed take part in the capture of Gibraltar in 1704 and she was again in Admiral Shovell's squadron on the fateful 22nd October 1707.
HMS Lenox was a 70-gun ship, rather larger than the ship depicted, and carried a roundhouse and two full tiers of stern and quarter windows.
John Hubbard (no bap record yet) son of John was made Captain of HMS Bonaventure on 16 June 1690 and was her commander at the Battle of Barfleur in 1692 and of HMS Essex 70 at Vigo Bay in 1702 and at Velez Malaga in 1704.
