Empire Shelter was a ship originally laid down as the Castle-class corvette HMS Barnard Castle of the Royal Navy (pennant number K694), but converted to a convoy rescue ship before completion.
She was launched at Browns shipyard in Kincaid on 5 October 1944, brought into service in 1945 and scrapped in July 1955 at Burght in Belgium.
Barnard Castle overlooks a small town of the same name in County Durham, Northern Ireland.
