HMS Calliope was a British C class light cruiser of the Royal Navy under construction at the outbreak of World War I.
Both Calliope and her sister ship Champion were based on HMS Caroline.

HMS Cairo (D87) was a C-class light cruiser of the Royal Navy, named after the Egyptian city of Cairo.
She was laid down by Cammell Laird at Birkenhead on 28 November 1917, launched on 19 November 1918 and commissioned on 24 September 1919.
During the operation she was sunk by the Italian submarine Axum north of Bizerta, Tunisia on 12 August 1942.

HMS Imogen and HMS Icarus sailed from Sullom Voe at 11:40 on Nov. 14-1939 in order to meet up with Convoy ON 2, while HMS Impulsive departed at 13:10 that same day, with orders to rendezvous with HMS Imogen off Hovden Channel at 10:00 on Nov. 15.
W/T silence was broken and the position and action taken reported to HMS Cairo, before Impulsive closed the remainder of the stragglers and set them on the rigth course to catch up with the convoy, which was sighted at 09:35, and by dusk all the ships had rejoined.
HMS Cairo then parted company; by then the convoy had been formed for the night and course set from 5' off Buchan Ness to follow the swept channels to Methil.

HMS Cairo served with the Home Fleet from 1939-42 moving to the Mediterranean Fleet in 1942 where she was torpedoed by the Italian submarine, Axum, near Bizerta.
HMS Capetown served with the Mediterranean fleet from 1939-40 and the East Indies from 1941-42, moving to the Eastern fleet from 1942-43.
HMS Colombo served in the East Indies 1940-41, then the Eastern fleet in 1942 being converted to an anti-aircraft ship in 1943 after which she served in the Mediterranean fleet until the end of the war.

HMS Cairo was sunk by a torpedo from the Italian submarine "Axum" on the 12th of August 1942, whilst escorting the Pedestal convoy, in the Mediterranean, north of Bizerta, Tunisia.
With Cairo's Captain Hardy in command we left Gibraltar with an escort of seven destroyers and in the convoy six merchant ships, and very soon came the first of the air attacks.

Commissioned with a Portsmouth crew on the 19th November 1938, Auckland worked up at Portland and sailed for her first assignment on 4th January 1939, arriving at Simonstown on the 17th February and cruised on the eastern coast of southern Africa during that summer.
On the 8th April 1941 Auckland arrived at Alexandria and transferred to the Mediterranean Fleet being based at Alexandria and covering convoys and operations along the Libyan coast until sunk by air attack off Tobruk on the 24th June 1941.
