The first HMS Sceptre (1781) was a third rate frigate launched on June 8, 1781, at Rotherhithe.
The fourth HMS Sceptre (1943) was a 1940-programme British S-class submarine (not to be confused with the earlier United States S-class submarines) launched on January 9, 1943, in Greenock, although her keel had been laid down in July 1940.
The fifth HMS Sceptre (S104), a Swiftsure-class submarine built by Vickers in Barrow-in-Furness, was commissioned on February 14, 1978, by Lady Audrey White.

13 Oct 1845 "Anita" spoke with "Castor" in the China Seas, Hong Kong to NZ 13 Dec 1845 The Anita spoke H.M.S. Castor, 36 guns, on the 13th October, in the China Seas, from Hongkong to New Zealand, for which destination H.M.S. Daedalus and H.M. steam frigate Driver were to follow.
HMS Racehorse arrived at Aukland from the Bay on the 12th instant, she reported that the natives at Kororarika, were then on amicable terms.
H.M.S. Calliope, the steamer Driver, and the Slains Castle, had returned to Wellington ; but as the Comet had no communication with the shore subsequently, the termination of the expedition was not known.

HMS Sceptre was a 74-gun third-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy.
On November 11, 1806, HMS Sceptre and Cornwallis under Captain Johnston made a dash into St. Paul's Bay, Isle of Bourbon, and attacked the shipping there, which consisted of the frigate Semillante, three armed ships and twelve captured British ships.
Her final years were spent in the Channel blockade of the French before she was finally broken up in 1821.

HMS Royalist and her sisters had a mixed armament of 6in and 4in guns.
HMS Chester was one of two light cruisers ordered for Greece but taken over by the British in 1915.
Although the shell was lighter it was easier for the gun crews to handle and so had a higher rate of fire as well as a being lighter mount, the gun also being used as the secondary armament of the large light cruiser Furious and the famous Hood.

Castor was on board with a 13-strong Swedish boarding team, and it was the first time that the team and their German Shepherd dog had spent a prolonged period at sea.
Castor, who weighs in at 50kg, is trained to sniff out explosives and drugs, and in the initial phases was abseiled, with his handler, on to the deck of a target ship from a German search and rescue Sea King helicopter which was also embarked in the Devonport-based frigate.
In particular, Castor's exploits in christening the flight deck on arrival in the USS Cape St George will be remembered by those who witnessed it...

HMS Trincomalee was a 38 gun frigate built at Bombay for the British navy.
In 1861, she was towed to Sunderland as tender for HMS Castor, a training ship, and was moved to West Hartlepool in 1862.

HMS Tiger was the last battlecruiser to have mixed firing for her boilers.
HMS Tiger was so badly damaged at the battle of Dogger Bank in January 1915 that she was reported sunk by German propaganda.
HMS Tiger came out of reserve between April 1926 and April 1931 and after another spell in reserve was scrapped in 1932.

Trincomalee was towed to Sunderland to act as tender for the drill ship HMS Castor, a vessel used to train Naval Volunteers (boys of 15 or 16 who had signed up to serve for a minimum of ten years once they reached the age of 18).
HMS Medea was assigned to the role of Southampton area training ship, and Trincomalee was 'reduced to reserve' with the intention being to use her as a depot.
HMS Trincomalee is renamed TS (Training Ship) Foudroyant, after the lost vessel she was replacing.

Traces of cocaine were found by HMS Marlborough's onboard American law enforcement detachment when they boarded the Castor.

King George V made another visit to Scapa in June 1917, arriving on HMS Castor during a Force 8 gale and thunderstorm on Thursday 21st.
He stayed with Admiral Beatty on the flagship, HMS Queen Elizabeth, where he was welcomed by all the Admirals, his son Prince Albert (later King George VI, then serving in HMS Malaya) and Midshipman "Dickie" Battenberg (later Earl Mountbatten).
On Saturday 23rd the King visited the submarine depot-ship Lucia (formerly the German Spreewald), then lunched with Admiral Sturdee in HMS Hercules, before returning to Queen Elizabeth to sail with her, Barham, Malaya, Warspite and Valiant for firing practice in the Pentland Firth.
