After commanding in another small frigate, Collingwood was promoted to 64 gun ship of the line HMS Sampson, and in 1783 he was appointed to HMS Mediator and posted to the West Indies, where he remained until the end of 1786, again, together with Nelson, preventing American ships from trading with the West Indies.
Collingwood continued to be actively employed in blockading the enemy, until the peace of Amiens allowed him to return to England.
Collingwood was raised to the peerage as Baron Collingwood of Coldburne and Heathpool, and received the thanks of both Houses of Parliament, with a pension of £2000 per annum.

Collingwood returned to HMS Barfleur to take part in a blockade of Brest, where he remained until the Treaty of Amiens was completed in February 1802.
Collingwood remained at Cadiz, whilst Nelson, on HMS Victory, pursued the fleet of the French Admiral, Pierre Villenueve to the West Indies and back to Europe.
Collingwood's health continued to suffer as he remained in his lonely and sedentary position and he hoped that the Admiralty would grant him permission to return to Northumberland to see his family, whom he had become increasingly estranged from.

After Trafalgar, Collingwood was raised to the peerage as a Baron and spent the next five years at sea blockading Cadiz and Toulon as Commander-in-Chief in the Mediterranean.
In 1946 the Electrical branch was formed and HMS COLLINGWOOD took over from HMS VERNON and other establishments the training of officers and ratings, except those of the Fleet Air Arm, in the maintenance of all electrical and radio equipment in the Fleet.

The 19 ownship models allow HMS Collingwood to conduct training in almost any class in service with the Royal Navy and vary in size from mine countermeasures vessels to aircraft carriers, and include surfaced submarines and auxiliaries (tankers, stores and logistics ship) operated by the civilian-manned Royal Fleet Auxiliary.
Today HMS Collingwood operates to 90%-plus of its capacity and has an annual student throughput in excess of 1000 (as well as visits from the navies of Chile, Saudi Arabia and Romania as part of training provided and managed by the Royal Navy).

On behalf of my father-in-law, Reg Stanford, who was at HMS Collingwood during WW2 for training as a young submariner, I am trying to locate the graves of his colleagues who died in a tragic accident at the base during the war.

HMS Collingwood is the lead establishment of the Maritime Warfare School (MWS) and the largest naval training organisation in Western Europe.

The design of these guns was faulty and one burst on trial in HMS Collingwood on 4 May 1886 while firing 3/4 charges.

 Royal Naval Volunteer Bands
The Corps of Drums of HMS Nelson Royal Naval Volunteer Band are indeed excellent, although only total perfection will satisfy some of its members (very admirable sentiments), who are only too aware how close the competition is getting.
HMS Nelson is of course not the only Royal Naval Volunteer Band in the area and co-operation between Bands is beneficial to all.
I had the pleasure of conducting HMS Collingwood Volunteer Band for the opening of the Rainbow Centre in Fareham.
