		HMS Conqueror was a Churchill-class nuclear powered submarine that served in the Royal Navy from 1971 to 1990.
		Conqueror was the third of the class, the other two being Churchill and Courageous.
		Conqueror did not fire again in anger during the war, but the crew did provide valuable help to the task force by using their sophisticated monitoring equipment to track Argentine aircraft departing the mainland.

	Sheffield After Exocet Missile Hits
		HMS Sheffield was the first casualty of the Exocet.
		The nuclear submarine Conqueror fired two Mark 8 torpedoes into it on 2 May. It was the first time a nuclear sub had ever fired a shot in anger.

		In early 1982, I was a junior officer on board the Royal Navy nuclear submarine HMS Conqueror when it torpedoed and sank the Argentinian cruiser the General Belgrano.
		The Bouchard had been escorting the Belgrano at the time of her sinking and it was reported after the war that the third torpedo fired by HMS Conqueror had actually hit the Bouchard but failed to detonate.
		Later it was found that she had four five-inch cracks in her hull and Barcena later told me himself that the torpedo had in fact exploded, but close to the destroyer rather than on contact with her.

		The British submarine HMS Conqueror had made a long range sonar contact on the 30th April, when it had arrived in the area fresh from the operation to recapture South Georgia and as there were no regular trade routes in the area the submarine closed in on the contact.
