HMS Ganges II moved closer inshore, between the piers (bows facing downstream).
HMS Ganges II put all boys ashore into Shotley and was then used as Naval Operations Ship, Harwich.

He was promoted to Sub-Lieutenant in 1926 and Lieutenant in 1928, he served in the destroyer HMS Wryneck and the Battleship HMS Ramillies in the Mediterranean before specializing in anti-submarine duties in 1931.
He was promoted to Commander in June 1941, when he took command of HMS Osprey which had been moved to Dunoon in Scotland because of the danger of bombing.
Then in April 1943, he took command of HMS Varbel the shore establishment for the experimental midget submarines and was involved in ‘Operation Source’ the attack on the German battleship Tirpitz in Norwegian waters on the 22nd September 1943, for this he received the CBE.

 HMS Ganges Mast
The mast was erected in 1907 for boy entrant training purposes using the lower foremast (steel) from HMS Cordelia (1881) with other sections from the mizzen mast of HMS Agincourt (1865).
The mast is now owned by the present developers and owners of the HMS Ganges site who to date (so I am informed by Dickie Doyle) have declined contact with the Mast Fund Trust or HMS Ganges Association.
He served in HMS Kent during WWII and was torpedoed and sunk 3 times, and ended the war Paul believes as a Commando with the C.O.P.P. (Combined Operations Pilotage Party) units.

 HMS Cordelia
HMS Cordelia was a Caroline class light cruiser that spent the First World War with the Grand Fleet, as part of the 1st Light Cruiser Squadron from January 1915-1917 and then the 4th Light Cruiser Squadron from 1917 until April 1919.
During 1915-16 she was based at Rosyth, under the overall command of Commodore Goodenough.
When Jellicoe lost touch with the German battleships after Scheer’s second turn away, the squadron was sent out in an attempt to recover contact, but without much success.

He married Cordelia Raper of Bedale, Yorkshire and their house still stands to this day at 53 High Street, opposite Portsmouth Cathedral (left).
Launched in 1919, H.M.S. Wishart (left) was in the Atlantic Fleet from May 1920 to July 1923 when she transferred to the Mediterranean Fleet.
In 1987, H.M.S. Wishart was honoured by the issue of a postage stamp featuring her heraldic badge (above).

 Caroline Class Light Cruisers
the Cruisers HMS Caroline, HMS Carysfort, HMS Cleopatra, HMS Camus, HMSD Conquest and HMS Cordelia, were all launched in 1914.

The volunteers spent the night in the British Flagship HMS Iris.
The volunteers arrived at New Plymouth in HMS Cordelia on July 8.
The Taranaki Herald reported that 30 of the Victoria's men were landed and marched up to the camp of the naval brigade [probably Fort Niger in New Plymouth], preceded by the Volunteer Band.

The first sailing vessel to use the dock was HMS Herald between 1-7 December 1857, at which point the facility was not yet complete.
