From 8-14 February 1940 Cornwall was docked in the Selborne dry dock at Simonstown, South Africa.
In May she was in the Indian Ocean while on patrol the German commerce raider Pinguin was sighted near the Seychelles and was engaged.
Cornwall was sunk in position 01º54'N, 77º45'E in 12 minutes by nine 250 to 550 pound bombs, and six near misses.

The early use of VIC 56 is unclear; she was given a loadline certificate by Lloyds (not necessary for naval vessels), allowing her to trade around the British Isles, except for the west coast of Ireland.
VIC 56 was frequently used to store minesweepers at Port Edgar and on one occasion to act as a minelayer for exercise purposes.
The most celebrated task allotted to VIC 56 was a voyage in April 1961 to the island of South Rona with construction materials to establish a base to monitor exercises.

HMS Cornwall was a cruiser engaged in the Battle of the Falkland Islands during WW I. Official name.
Mount Cornwall, together with Mount Glasgow, Outlaw Peak, and Banded Peak, forms a small range which lies between the Little Elbow River to the north and the Elbow River to the south.
The Cornwall and Glasgow, together with HMS Kent, were pursuing three German warships that were trying to escape the main battle and seek refuge in Tierra del Fuego.

This painting by Tony Standish, "HMS Ganges at Mylor" measuring 66cm x 92cm, will be sold at the Plymouth Auction Rooms on the evening of Wednesday 22nd March.
I have a few pictures of him in his uniform and he has HMS GANGES on his cap, so just wondered if anyone knew him or remembers him, name being James William Crunkhurn, or Bill as he was fondly known.
The anniversary celebrations on 1st July next, are being jointly hosted by Mylor Yacht Harbour Ltd and Mylor Yacht Club, of which I am a Committee Member as well as co-ordinating the arrangements for the celebration.

I understand he was a Stoker, sadly he passed away at the age of 59 on 13th September 2006 at Pembury Nr Royal Tunbridge Wells, he had been fighting of the Big C (brain tumor) for the last 4yrs.
Who remembers the Undaunted Tug of War Team and the coach trip too Priddy in Cornwall where we were thrashed by 8 farmers wives and a chicken plucker.
I am building a model of HMS Undaunted to show her with the flight deck when also she still had the aft gun mount.

The Cornwall was involved in a great scandal in 1903 when seven boys contracted typhoid.
In 1889, the Cumberland was destroyed by a fire and was replaced by the Empress, a wooden battleship originally known as HMS Revenge.
In addition to cutters and yawls and a hospital ship, the 45-acre shore establishment included a church, gymnasium, swimming baths, etc. The training given was primarily for sea-service, and 90 percent of the boys gained the higher ratings in the Royal Navy.

I would be interested to know if there are any more HMS St George boys who may remember me or my Father,Unfortunately my Dear Lady is disabled so I am not able to attend the reunions but have very fond memories of the Eagle and the comms Staff.
Albert Adey was secound class stoker on board the HMS Eagle when she got torpeado'd.He was a surviver.Lived to have seven boys.Six of them live in California.
