HMS Corunna was powered by three Admiralty 3-drum type boilers providing a top speed of 34 knots and carried a crew of 250 in peace time and 337 during the Second World War.
HMS Courageous was a British Courageous Class aircraft carrier of 18600 tons displacement, originally built as a shallow draft cruiser in 1915 under the Emergency War Programme to operate in the Baltic.

Three ships of the Royal Navy have been named HMS Cottesmore after the Cottesmore hunt:
She served in World War I and was paid off and sold in 1919.
She served in World War II, was sold to the Egyptian Navy in 1950 being renamed Port Said, and served into the 1980s as a training ship.

HMS Brecon made the headlines 18 months ago when she because the first large Royal Navy warship to be commanded by a woman, then Lt, now Lt Cdr Charlotte ‘Charlie’ Atkinson.
HMS Cottesmore, commanded by Lt Dan Knight, has also enjoyed a share of the limelight _ from April 1993 until November 1994 her commanding officer was the Duke of York.

My brother Ellis was Yeoman of Signals on HMS Tynedale when she was attacked and sunk by U593.
My late husband served in HMS Pytchley, I think he told me that James Mason, the film star, was serving too, at one time.
My uncle served on HMS Quorn and was lost presumed missing on 4th August 1944.

The RN is becoming a fleet of middle aged or old warships, only the decommissioning of old warships is keeping the mean age from growing too rapidly.
Until the new carriers are order, many senior officials in the Army and RAF will continue to question their need and see cancellation as the best palliative to the MOD’s continuous budget crisis.

Your humble webmaster was privileged to be among a group from the Ton Class Association (TCA) which visited the Sandown Class minehunter HMS Ramsey at Portsmouth today courtesy of her CO, Martin Mackey, a fellow member of both the TCA and the MCDOA.
Buriton is just outside Petersfield in Hampshire and 'HMS Mirtle' was the nickname given to the mine investigation range, established during the Second World War at a nearby quarry, where bombs and mines were taken for steaming out by HMS Vernon's mine investigation teams.
HMS Hurworth will be open to visitors during a three day visit to Weymouth from Tues 23 Aug as part of the 200th anniversary of the Trafalgar Dispatch (the delivery of news to London of Britain’s victory at the Battle of Trafalgar and of Nelson’s death).

Whether the Royal Navy was responsible for certifying the seaworthiness of the Canadian submarine HMCS "Chicoutimi" (formerly HMS "Upholder") before it set sail for Canada recently.
Following refurbishment and reactivation, HMCS "Chicoutimi" (formerly HMS "Upholder") met all appropriate Royal Navy standards for acceptance and operational service, by the handover to the Canadians on 2 October 2004.

The Duke of York chats with the crew of HMS Ark Royal on his last day in the RN After 22 years service, HRH Prince Andrew The Duke of York said farewell to the Royal Navy on 30 July 2001.
He subsequently qualified as a helicopter pilot in April 1981, and served as a Sea King pilot with 820 Naval Air Squadron aboard HMS Invincible during the Falklands conflict, flying all manner of operational sorties including anti-submarine hunts, transport, casualty evacuation, and search and rescue missions.
He later flew the Lynx helicopters assigned to HMS Brazen and HMS Campbeltown, as well as holding a watchkeeping billet on HMS Edinburgh.

HMS Cottesmore, a Royal Naval patrol vessel, will berth at the Alexandra dock.
The vessel has maintained strong links with the residents of Cottesmore village, and is affiliated with RAF Cottesmore.
The ship’s company of 36 officers and ratings will be visiting the village and airbase to say farewell to the many friends they have made, while the Commanding Officer of the ship, Lieutenant Dan Knight, will pay his respects to the Mayor of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk, Councillor Trevor Manley.

My sea training was conducted on the Coniston (Ton) Class Mine Hunter HMS GAVINTON where I decided I wanted to be a Mine Warfare and Clearance Diving Officer, and HMS ROTHESAY where I spent the Falklands War in the Caribbean.
I joined one of the Royal Navy's Hunt Class Mine Hunter/Sweepers HMS COTTESMORE in late 1985 as Operations Officer for two years and then 18 months as Executive Officer (Second in Command) of HMS LEDBURY.
During this period I also spent a couple of months as XO of HMS SHERATON for an exercise in the Mediterranean.

It is unusual to see ships inshore at the east coast, and onlookers headed to the beach as it headed to the resort on its final voyage before being decommissioned.

The Wash is known for its sandbanks and shipping hazards, and officer of the watch Lt Merlin Miall said the voyage had been a challenge to plot because beach renourishment had dramatically changed the shape of the seabed.
The Cottesmore, which had been on Northern Ireland patrol duty, is due to be decommissioned in two weeks' time.

The Royal International Air Tattoo, this year held at RAF Cottesmore on 28-29 July, marks its 30th anniversary with a celebration of Women in Aviation, and the sixtieth anniversaries of both the Air Training Corps and the incomparable Lancaster bomber.
A Merlin HM Mark 1 anti-submarine helicopter landed aboard HMS Ark Royal on 14 July, the day after the aircraft carrier returned to sea after a comprehensive refit.

I was on number 24 pilot course at No 7 FTS in Cottesmore in 1948/49.
We all really miss Cottesmore as it is a fantastic village with a fantastic community.
I was evacuated to Cottesmore during WW2 and boarded at the evacuated Fleet Central(Later Secondary) School, which was situated in Cottesmore Hall.
