This deed of daring is illustrated in the crest of HMS Daring.
Daring was allocated to the 1st Far East Destroyer Squadron in July 1967 and later, in January 1968, she was transferred to the 2nd Far East Destroyer Squadron.
HMS DARING unfortunately had an open air bridge; being a signalman I was exposed to all weathers as well as the painfully loud gunfire, which is now causing me hearing problems.

The Royal Navy's new Type 45 Destroyers are to be known as the Daring, or 'D' Class, and the first three will be named HMS Daring, HMS Dauntless and HMS Diamond.
The first of class, HMS Daring, will begin sea trials in 2007 and she is due to enter full naval service in 2009.

A proposal to convert HMS DIOMEDE for use as the Royal Yacht was made in 1922 but this was not approved, probably because of economic constraints.
HMS DUNEDIN was the only ship of this Class to be lost and was sunk by a U Boat torpedo on 24th November 1941 off Pernambuco.
The ship was transferred for completion by HM Dockyard at Portsmouth as an economy measure and build was not completed until 24th February 1922.

 Daring class - Destroyer Class - background and news
The currently estimated in-service date of HMS Daring is May 2009.
The programme to build HMS Daring began in Aug 2003 and production is now well underway at BAE Systems in Glasgow and Vosper Thornycroft in Portsmouth.
The first major section of Type 45 Destroyer HMS Daring was recently moved from the BAE Systems yard in Govan, where it was constructed, to the build line in nearby Scotstoun where the ship will be put together.

HMS delight was bombed and sunk by German bombers off Dover on July 29th, 1940, A total of six ratings died of wounds and three officers, including the commander.

The only torpedo gunboat built at Chiswick was H.M.S. Speedy, and for this vessel Thornycroft designed an entirely new type of water tube boiler, which was not only safer but also gave one knot additional speed,.She was launched on the 18th May 1893 by Lady Hamilton, wife of the First Lord of the Admiralty.
Sadly she was sunk by a mine in the North Sea in September 1914.
The Daring was in service until 1912, but her sister ship, Decoy, was lost in a collision in 1904.
