HMS E15 was an E -class submarine of the Royal Navy commissioned in 1914.

HMS E15 was an E-class submarine of the Royal Navy, commissioned in 1914.
On April 16, 1915, under the command of Lieutenant Commander T.S. Brodie, E15 left Mudros and attempted to break through the Dardanelles to the Sea of Marmara.
Early in the morning of April 17, the submarine, having dived too deep and become caught in a current, ran aground some ten miles in, near Kepez Point and directly under the guns of one of the defensive batteries.

She was renamed Grampus on December 16, 1913, her former name being reallocated to HMS Nautilus, the first Royal Navy submarine to be given one.
On August 6, HMS Grampus landed 11th Battalion, The Manchester Regiment of the 11th (Northern) Division inside Suvla Bay, but on the wrong part of the beach.
The troops were ill-supplied and ran critically short of drinking water in the actions that followed; on August 8, HMS Grampus cut one of its own water tanks loose and floated it ashore, which allowed the men who recovered it about a pint (0.5 litre) each.

In October 1940 HMS Triad was patrolling the coast of Libya before proceeding to Alexandria.
It was initially believed that Italian aircraft had bombed Triad off Calabria, but it was later discovered that she had been attacked and sunk by the Italian submarine Enrico Toti on 15th.

When John Baker found the £750,000 remote-controlled submarine, missing from HMS Penzance, the Royal Navy denied it was theirs until he politely pointed out the letters MoD were printed on the side.
On completion of the refit the boat was used for training purposes and in October the boat left Clyde to undertake a patrol in the North Sea, the only outstanding encounter was with a U-boat, but contact was lost before an attack could be concluded.
The Swedish Navy submarine HMS Gotland, designed and built by Kockums, is being leased to the US Navy for a year, complete with a Swedish crew, so that the Americans can conduct joint manoeuvres with her.
