HMS Eagle was a British aircraft carrier of 22600 tons displacement started in 1913 for the Chilean navy as the Battleship Almirante Cochrane but modified into an aircraft carrier before being completed and handed over in 1923.
HMS Eagle (formerly Audacious) was a British Ark Royal Class fleet aircraft carrier of 33000 tons displacement begun in 1942 and launched in 1946.
HMS Edinburgh is powered by two Rolls-Royce Olympus TM3B gas turbines; two Rolls-Royce Tyne RM1C gas turbines used for cruising and four diesel generators providing a top speed of 30 knots and a range of 4000 miles at 18 knots.

 HMS Theseus (1892) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
HMS Theseus was an Edgar-class protected cruiser of the Royal Navy.
The Edgars were basically smaller versions of the Blake class.
On the 14 October, Theseus, accompanied by her sister-ship HMS Hawke, were patrolling the North Sea when they were attacked by U-9.

HMS Woodcock, HMS Woodlark, HMS Kinsha were on the Yangtze without doubt (although none of these ships are mentioned in the Snipe chapters).
I would assume the last of the six gunboats mentioned was HMS Nightingale (HMS Widgeon probably had not been shipped out to China yet as she had only been recently built).
HMS Snipe moored at Nanchang and immediately commenced an investigation, in addition to restoring order to the town.

 Armoured Cruisers - WW1 Naval Combat
HMS Endymion like most of the Edgar class started the war as part of the 10th Cruiser Squadron which was tasked with enforcing the northern blockade on Germany.
HMS Monmouth, Bedford, Donegal, Berwick, Kent, Cumberland, Cornwall, Essex, Suffolk, Lancaster Laid down 1899-1901, completed 1903-1904.
She was one of the many armoured cruisers sunk during the war with many of the rest relegated to secondary tasks by the end, the type being superseded by the battlecruiser.

On their return to England, Duncan left HMS Monarch and was not in active command again until 1782, when Keppel became First Lord of the Admiralty.
Duncan was appointed to HMS Blenheim and attached to Lord Howe’s fleet in the Mediterranean, where they were involved in the relief of Gibraltar and an encounter with a combined allied fleet off Cape Spartel.
He succeeded Sir John Jervis in command of HMS Foudroyant in 1782, and after the peace, was in command of HMS Edgar, a guard ship at Portsmouth for three years.

HMS Hood was blown up and sunk by the Bismarck and HMS Prince of Wales had to withdraw under cover of smoke, after being damaged, but was able to continue to shadow the German ship.

By 1 July 1691 he was Second Lieutenant on HMS Northumberland, and was with her at the battle of Barfleur in 1692.
For the next five years HMS Nightingale was on seemingly routine duties escorting colliers and corn ships between the Forth, Tyne, Humber and Thames, protecting them from French privateers.

The plan was that she be converted into a "boys training ship" and moved to permanent moorings in Port Edgar Rosyth in Scotland.

Edgar was the youngest son of George and Helen Eliza and only the third son to survive infancy.
He was never in the best of health having been gassed during the 1st world War and suffered "shell shock".
Edgar was lucky as the majority of young men who had found themselves in the same situation were court martialled and hanged or shot in spite of extenuating circumstances, including illness.

Robert Edgar and his wife Catherine lived near Portadown in Northern Ireland.
Robert had been a sailor and served throughout the Napoleonic wars, he had served on HMS Victory during the Battle of Trafalgar, and was there when Lord Nelson died in 1805.
The pictures below were taken on the 60th Wedding Anniversary of Helen and Stuart Edgar on the 16th August 1999, they show Helen and Stuart with their sons Gordon and James, and with their sons families.

I am searching for information about my great-grandfather, George Haycock, a naval man who supposedly served aboard HMS Carrysfort during the 1881 census, and most probably was born in Wolverhampton.
At that time he was serving on HMS Ulysses, I think he was a Petty Officer.
He was in the Falklands on HMS Ulysses and at the time the ship had close links with Jarrow PHAB Club.
