On August 24, 1919, HMS Glowworm went to the assistance of a barge that was burning on a bank of the Dvina River.
HMS Ladybird was on the Yangtze and about 20 miles away from USS Panay when she was fired upon by a Japanese shore battery.

Glowworm rammed the enemy German cruiser Admiral Hipper and sank in the Norwegian Sea north-west of Trondheim on 8 April 1940.
Her commanding officer, Lieutenant Commander Gerard Roope, killed when Glowworm sank, was awarded the Victoria Cross on the recommendation of the captain of Admiral Hipper.

HMS Gannet was functioning in the area of Hong Kong as of February 1940, but was damaged by Japanese aircraft and moved to Chungking for repairs (she remained there).

Glowworm was pushed under the cruiser's bow and her entire foreship up to the bridge was sheared off.
Her commanding officer, Lieutenant Commander Gerard Broadmead Roope, killed when Glowworm sank, was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross, thus becoming the first VC recipient of the Second World War.

This a scratch built/ kit bash using parts of the Airfix HMS Hotspur.
The anchors, from the 1/720 Italeri HMS Hood, were added and White Ensign Models (WEM) photo etch (PE) cables put in place.
The bollards were removed from the Airfix HMS Belfast and the fairleads were from WEM.

On 8 April 1940 in the Norwegian Sea, West Ford, Norway, Lieutenant-Commander Roope commanding HMS Glowworm (1,345 tons) fought an unequal duel with the German cruiser Admiral Hipper (10,000 tons).
In the encounter Glowworm was soon battered and burning and eventually, as a last gesture of defiance, her commander decided to ram the cruiser, which resulted in a good deal of damage to the latter.
Glowworm then fired one more salve, scoring a hit, before she capsized and sank.
