 HMS Hardy
The first HMS Hardy was a Havock (A) class destroyer laid down by the Northumberland Shipbuilding Company, Limited, of William Doxford and Sons at Sunderland on 4 June 1894, launched on 16 December 1895 and completed in August 1896.
HMS Hardy, commanded by Captain Bernard Warburton-Lee, RN, was engaged by enemy German destroyers as she attacked troop transports during the First Battle of Narvik and sank in the Ofotfiord off Narvik in Norway on 10 April 1940.
The fourth HMS Hardy (R-08) was a V class destroyer laid down by John Brown and Company, Limited, at Clydebank in Scotland on 14 May 1942, launched on 18 March 1943 and commissioned on 14 August 1943.

 Havock class destroyer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Havock and Hornet, the two Havock-class destroyers built in 1893, were the first torpedo boat destroyers (TBDs) of the Royal Navy.
Havock was launched first, on 12 August 1893.
Havock and Hornet did not survive to see World War I, being broken up in 1912 and 1909 respectively.

My nan lost her brother on HMS Lively in ww2 and is ill herself and is always going on about how did he and the ship die/go down do you have any references to put her mind at rest please.
A report on some of the actions in which HMS Lively was involved in during her short time in the Mediterranean prior to her being sunk on the 11th.
HMS Neptune and HMS Kandahar sank while HMS Aurora was badly and HMS Penelope was lightly damaged.

HMS Lively was dispatched to assist the Free French mine laying submarine, which had been damaged off Obrestad in Norway, and, unable to dive, was making her way back on the surface at 10 knots.
HMS Lively was narrowly missed by a torpedo which passed astern of her and Libeccio was slightly damaged by the return fire.
HMS Lively was damaged by fire from the Littorio, this damaged a bulkhead and resulted in her speed being reduced to 20 Knots.

T class submarine HMS Tarpon is sunk in the Norwegian Sea at 57 43N 06 33E by depth charges dropped by decoy Schiff 40.
Unfortunately, while HMS Furious is in home waters, the Royal Navy's other two fleet carriers, HMS Ark Royal (Flag of Vice-Admiral Aircraft Carriers, Lionel Victor Wells, CB, DSO, RN) and HMS Glorious are in far off Alexandria.
Others are damaged, but as 2nd Flotilla retires, H class destroyer HMS Hardy is sunk at 68 23N, 17 06E by gunfire and H class destroyer HMS Hunter is sunk by gunfire and collision at 68 20N, 17 04E, and HMS Hotspur is badly damaged.

The Cruiser HMS Neptune ran into an uncharted minefield in the Mediterranean off Tripoli, and sank with the loss of 764 officers and men.
HMS Neptune, commanded by Captain Rory O'Conor, was leading 'Force K', a Cruiser raiding squadron.
On the afternoon of December 18th the squadron was despatched from Malta to intercept an important enemy convoy bound for Tripoli.

HMS Penelope was again damaged on the 18th of December 1941, as part of the British K force she, along with HMS Neptune, HMS Aurora, HMS Kandahar, HMS Lance, HMS Lively and HMS Havock encountered an Italian minefield off Tripoli.
HMS Penelope was repaired at Malta but was bombed during the repairs on 26 March 1942.
Joined H.M.S. Penelope in Portsmouth and after a week or so steaming off Portland and where, incidentally was issued with cold weather clothing, so we had a fair idea that we would be going somewhere warm and we were right, we were soon to be back in Gibraltar and operating in the Med.

 G+H Class Destroyers
My uncle, Leading Stoker F W Plumb C/KX91161 served on HMS Gallant and was lost on 10 January 1941, along with 59 other crew members, when the ship struck a mine 25 miles south east of Pantellaria during the Malta Convoys.
I am a member of the Oldbury Local History Society and interested in HMS Griffin because she was adopted by Oldbury (West Mildands) in WW2.
I would be interested to hear from anyone who sailed on her or has knowledge of her, particularly if any contacts were made with the people of Oldbury through visits, parcels, letters etc. Any photographs would be of interest.
