 HMS Imperieuse
HMS Imperieuse, Royal Navy armoured cruiser built at Portsmouth Dockyard and launched on 18th December 1883.
HMS Imperieuse served as flagship to the China Station 1889-1894 and moving to the Pacific Station 1896 -1899.
She became a destroyer depot ship at Portland in 1905 and was renamed HMS Sapphire but reverting to HMS Imperieuse again in 1909.

 HMS Warspite 1884
HMS Warspite was built at Chatham Dockyard and engined by Penn. and Launched 29th January 1884, while her sister ship HMS Imperious was built at Portsmouth Dockyard 1883 and engined by Maudslay.
HMS Warspite (shown left) was commissioned in 1890 as flagship in the Pacific and on her return home, in 1893, she was selected to carry the flag of the senior naval officer on the Irish coast.
HMS Warspite shown on left, the flagship of the station with HMS Icarus and Amphibian naval sloops and the ill-fated HMS Condor.

HMS Hawke - famed for hitting the RMS Olympic, served and was lost during WW1
The eighth HMS Shannon was the first British armoured cruiser.
She was the last Royal Navy ironclad to be built which had a propeller that could be hoisted out of the water to reduce drag when she was under sail, and the first to have an armoured deck.

He served with the China Expedition of 1857-59 including the blockade of the Canton River, the landing before, and the capture of the City on 29 Dec. 1857; also present at the attack and capture of the bridge, batteries and village of Shek-Tsin on the 8th and 9th Jan. 1859.
J.W. Scott commanded a Guard of Royal Marines landed from H.M.S. Queen for the protection of the British Legation at Athens, during the revolution in July 1863, and received the thanks of the British Minister, the Honorable P. Campbell Scarlett.
In 1852 he was selected with three of four other subalterns to superintend the construction of forts and defensible barracks in Alderney under Captain (afterwards Sir William), Jervois, the object of which forts was to protect the harbour of refuge, which was then being formed in that island.

He became Acting Leading Stoker while serving aboard HMS Medea on 23rd December 1910, and was confirmed as a Leading Stoker aboard HMS Indus in 1911 (the Indus was a base ship at Devonport).
HMS Tamarisk was based at Scapa Flow in the Orkney Islands and served as a convoy escort in the North Sea.

He served on Castor until July of 1813, when he was badly wounded in the capture of a French privateer, was transferred to a hospital in Port Mahon on the island of Minorca.
He was drafted to China, and sailed on board the "Inoperatrice" (Imperieuse?) in 1857.
I have photo of a painting of the HMS Imperieuse on China Station.
