HMS Inconstant (H-49) was an I class destroyer laid down as Mauvenet for the Turkish Navy by Vickers Armstrong Naval Construction Works at Barrow-in-Furness on 24 May 1939, purchased in September 1939, launched on 24 February 1941 and commissioned on 24 January 1942.
Inconstant participated in the assault on Madagascar in May 1942, and attacked and sank the enemy German submarines U-409 in the Mediterranean north-east of Algiers on 12 July 1943 and U-767 while in company with the destroyers HMS Fame and HMS Havelock in the English Channel south-west of Guernsey on 18 June 1944.
HMS Inconstant was returned to Turkey on 9 March 1946 and renamed Muavenet.

The reference librarian hopefully provided me with a huge volume which listed the names of every British warship ever built, and as I leafed through the index, I was impressed by the quality of the names that the British have given their warships.
My first assumption was that these names had been chosen by some fresh faced innocent unaware of their connotations, but a careful reading of the index suggested that the choice of such names was deliberate and malicious.
But it is hard not to imagine the crew of HMS Narcissus leaning over the side to admire their reflections in the water, or the crew of HMS Spanker being accosted by leather-clad masochists in dockside bars.

The name means "support"; the later ships were named in honor of the first.
The first Muavenet[?] was an Ottoman torpedo boat that sank the pre-dreadnought battleship HMS Goliath[?] during the Canakkale Wars.
The second Muavenet[?], ex-HMS Inconstant (H-49)[?], was a destroyer ordered by Turkey to be built in England, but delayed in delivery by World War II.

I could not find a picture of HMS Mourne for you but she was a River Class Frigate commissioned on the 24th.
Sunk 18 June, 1944 in the English Channel south-west of Guernsey, in position 49.03N, 03.13W, by depth charges from the British destroyers HMS Fame, HMS Inconstant and HMS Havelock.
On 15 Jun, 1944, the HMS Mourne (K 261) (LtCdr R.S. Holland RNR) from the 5th Escort Group was hit and sunk by a Gnat from U-767 in the English Channel.

Frederick joined the Royal Navy in 1877 and in 1882, he was an Able Seaman aboard "HMS Inconstant".
In 1869 the Duke of Wellington had replaced HMS Victory as flagship at Portsmouth, a role which she played until 1891, and her main duties were mainly ceremonial, as several Log Book entries record the firing of salutes to passing dignitaries, including at times Queen Victoria on her way to or from Osborne House.
The ship had been originally named Windsor Castle, but because she was launched on the day the Iron Duke died, she was immediately renamed in his honour.

The log of HMS Octavia in fact goes back to April 1868 but the period April-July 1868 must have been copied from another log as Duncan did not join HMS Octavia until 10 July 1868 in Aden.
Document 1p folio, HMS Victory 4 Oct 1804, being attestation station of enlistment of Antonio Boniando 'by trade a hairdresser' as a Marine.
Why Boniando was subsequently enlisted as a Marine on HMS Victory is not clear (and he does not apparently appear on the muster roll) but possibly Nelson wanted a good hairdresser.
