On 28th May 1940 HMS Intrepid arrived at Dover to take part in Operation 'Dynamo' the withdrawal of the British Expendiary Forces from France and Belgium.
On 29th May she landed 661 troops at Dover but on her return trip to Dunkirk she was damaged by air attack, with two killed and 19 wounded, HMS Intrepid had to return to Dover.
On the morning of 26th September 1943 HMS Intrepid received a direct hit during an air raid on Leros and sustained damage amidships.

This close co-operation was highlighted during HMS Ocean's trials in the Caribbean when the carrier spearheaded a mercy mission off the Mosquito Coast of central America in the wake of Hurricane Mitch.
HMS Ocean's commanding officer, Capt Bob Turner, had to interrupt the ship's trials and render assistance to the civil population in central America supplying food, medicine and humanitarian aid across the country, including supplies of freshwater from the ship that can produce 300 tons of water a day.
By mid-1999 HMS Ocean will have completed both hot and cold weather trials and after official acceptance into the fleet she will deploy for amphibious exercises in the US prior to heading a multi-national deployment to the Mediterranean that will culminate in a seaborne assault into Egypt.

With her sister ship Intrepid, Fearless has served longer than ever anticipated by the MOD and this has meant that the number of people who served on her has been greater than many ships in the fleet.
Albert had opportunity to vist the port of Lakki where Intrepid lies recently, he was saddened that there were plaques for the Germans Italians and Greeks who died in the area but nothing to commemorate those from the Intrepid.
This has led to a delay in disposal of Intrepid as it is felt that the companies tendering for the scrap have not the means to deal with the problems associated with safe removal of the asbestos.

HMS Cossack sailed out of Jøssingfjord at 23.55 hours with 299 merchant seamen who had been released and they were landed at Leith after a fast passage home.

According to information leaked to Greenpeace a 2001 British Navy inventory of asbestos on the HMS "Intrepid" reportedly found asbestos throughout the vessel, including asbestos insulation on pipework throughout the ship and the insulation on the 2 funnels.

Under the notorious 1981 Defence Review HMS Fearless (L10) and her sistership HMS Intrepid (L11) were to have been withdrawn from service without replacement.
The slipway was assembled, triggers were positioned, poppets were constructed forward and aft and 1150 tons of carefully laid chain was attached to Albion to arrest her once she entered Walney Channel after the 15mph journey down the slipway.
She was the largest warship launched at Barrow since HMS Invincible in 1978.
