HMS Ocean was laid down in 1898, and was a first class battleship of 12,950 tons displacement.
HMS Ocean took Irresistible in tow, but she also hit a mine and both ships were lost in deep water.
Having enjoyed thirteen years in service, the rusting remains of HMS Ocean now lie in a watery grave off the southern shore of The Narrows, just to the south of the wreck of HMS Irresistible, who she was trying to rescue.

Queen Elizabeth's target was Mecidiye fort, HMS Lord Nelson was going to bomb the Namazgah fort and HMS Inflexible's object was Hamidiye fort.
Shortly afterwards, Irresistible hit a mine; out of control she was near the Asiatic shore to attract the attention of Turkish gunners and her crew was taken off.
At 18:05, while the second squadron was withdrawing, HMS Ocean hit a mine and she exploded.

He does not appear in the records again until 27 Jul 1770, when his name was entered on the paysheets of the H.M.S. Hunter, a small sloop mounting only 10 guns, rated as an AB and master's mate.
This was soon after the death of his mother and the remarriage of his father, and these event may have had something to do with Bligh's re-entry into the Navy.
At 22, to be appointed sailing master on a major research vessel was a great tribute to his skill and connections.

 HMS Irresistible
The first vessel to be sent to Gibraltar as a guardship was the Devastation, but her place was to be taken by Irresistible, one of the London class battleships, in 1902.
She was an exceedingly powerful vessel, and the Commander-in-Chief in the Mediterranean would not allow her to remain at the Rock in idleness, but utilised her as an addition to his squadron.
The picture shows the Irresistible leaving Portsmouth Harbour, and allows a contrast between her look of stern fighting power with the old time veterans the St Vincent and the Victory and a smart little brig the Martin.

HMS Trafalgar is the class sub, of (surprise) the Trafalgar class SSN fleet - and as far as i know they'll still be in service when the new carriers enter service.
HMS Nelson was a Battleship in WW2 and there was a previous Nelson line of Battleships aswell (though i'm not sure of the dates) so it's allready an associated name with associated battle honours - not really suitable for carriers.

Although generally similar in appearance to the Canopus class they can be distinguished from them by the wider spacing of the funnels and by the forward funnel being closer to the foremast.
HMS Irresistible was one of several British and French old battleships sunk in the failed Dardanelles campaign.
After striking a mine attempts were made to tow the ship out of the straights but enemy fire, the ship listing too heavily and the ship sent to tow her (HMS Ocean) running aground forced the attempt to be called off.

Some time ago I received information that William Lawrence was serving in the Royal Navy at the outbreak of war, and was on board HMS Irresistible when she was involved in action at the Dardanelles on March 18th 1915, and subsequently struck a mine and sank in Kephtx Bay.
It seems almost certain that William Lawrence was in the Royal Navy, that he was probably serving on Irresistible in March 1915, and he did not return home after the war; beyond that, I have not yet been able to discover more concrete facts about his identity.
