HMS Jupiter (F60) was a Leander-class frigate of the Royal Navy (RN).
Jupiter then visited Africa on her way to the Far East and Pacific, and when she reached the Far East, Jupiter did a variety of duties, including performing fly-the-flag visits to numerous ports.
In 1980, Jupiter's modernisation commenced, and included the addition of the SeaWolf missile system, as-well as the removal of her single 4.5-in twin turret in favour of the Exocet anti-ship missile.

HMS Jupiter (F85) was a J-class destroyer of the Royal Navy laid down by the Yarrow Shipbuilding Company, Limited, at Scotstoun in Glasgow on 28 September 1937, launched on 27 October 1938 and commissioned on 25 June 1939.
On 29 November 1941, the Jupiter and HMS Encounter, detached from the Mediterranean Fleet, joined up with Force G at Colombo, and the 5 ships sailed later that day.
HMS Jupiter, commanded by Lieutenant Commander Norman V. Thew, RN, struck a mine as she steamed with the American-British-Dutch-Australian Command (ABDA) cruiser force during the Battle of the Java Sea.

Just such a hero was Commander Lewis M Mortlock who, in command of HM brig-sloop Wolverine, 13 guns, 286 tons, gave his life for his country in most gallant circumstances.
It is a tribute to a natural seaman that Mortlock achieved so much by working cleverly within his vessel’s limitations and thereby getting more out of her than another might have done, in spite of his having been several years on the beach.
The Channel engagement was the equivalent of front-page news in its day and the subject of popular prints; there is one delightfully primitive engraving by Charles Turner from a sketch by Masquerier showing Mortlock skewering his frog the while his dog leaps supportively beside him.

I first went to sea in the Spring of 1964 in HMS Cassandra and finished at the end of 1973 aboard the assault ship HMS Fearless.
Drafted to HMS Hermes which was having a refit in Devonport and then on to HMS Scarborough, Dartmouth Training Squadron.
HMS Scarborough then paid off (finished her commission) and I was then drafted with some other members of Scarborough's ships company to HMS Fearless, which took over the DTS role along with her sister ship Intrepid.

LtCdr Norman V. Thew's destroyer HMS JUPITER is escorting the 34, 600-ton former SS WASHINGTON passenger-liner, now the troop transport USS MOUNT VERNON (AP-22), that is enroute to Aden after debarking British and Canadian troops troops at Singapore.
The JUPITER's remaining four 4.7-inch/45 (12 cm) Mark XII quick-firing guns register two or three hits on the submarine and her deck gun is no longer manned.
The JUPITER passes 15 feet abeam of the submarine and drops a shallow-set depth charge.
