The Indiaman's crew were suspicious of Kidd, so much so that they kept their guns trained upon the ADVENTURE GALLEY throughout his stay, eventually warning him to leave harbor before they boarded him.
The ADVENTURE GALLEY, herself stalking a large Moorish merchant vessel, fired a broadside at her, hitting the merchant's hull, sails, and rigging.
Though it was not a legitimate prize, he allowed his crewmen to board the barque and take a bale of pepper and a sack of coffee.

The crew of the SS Tewkesbury got away in two boats, and the boat my father was in was picked up several days later by the SS Exhibitor (American Export Lines), aboard which the survivors spent about a week before being transferred to HMS Cilicia in the South Atlantic.
My father, Charles Polisher, was a mariner on the Katherine L. Bates sometime between 1942 and 1946.
I would like to hear from shipmates or anyone knows what became of her or has a photo, to surprise my father for his birthday.
