Two destroyers of the British Royal Navy have been named HMS Legion, after the legion.
The first Legion was launched in 1914 and sold 1921.
The second Legion was launched in 1939 and sunk in an air attack off Malta in 1942.

At about 15.00 hours, the British battleship HMS Prince of Wales, HMS Rodney, two cruisers and six destroyers (among them the HNMS Isaac Sweers) were ordered to engage Italian warships reported about 70 miles away, but the Italians avoided contact and the ships returned to the convoy shortly afterwards.
At 06.17 hours on the next day, HMS Gurkha got a radar contact with the surfaced Italian submarine Diaspro in 37°32N/06°45E and was shortly thereafter missed by two torpedoes, which passed under the destroyer.
HMS Sikh was leading the group, then HMS Legion, HMS Maori and finally HNMS Isaac Sweers.

The Hood -- considered to be the most advanced naval ship in the world when she was built -- was sunk in May 1941 by a single shell from the German battleship Bismarck.
It was found by a team led by deep-sea explorer David Mearns as part of an expedition funded by Channel 4 with the support of the Ministry of Defence, the Hood Association, the Royal Naval Association and the Royal British Legion.

My grandfather served on the HMS Meteor from shortly after she was commissioned until January 1943 under Lieutenant Commander Jewitts.
I am after information and photos of HMS Martin which was sunk by a U-boat on 10th November 1942 off the coast of Africa.

Sam was rescued a third time, but the destroyer HMS Legion was taking no chances, and Sam was retired to a home on dry land in England.
A few months later, in about March 1948, the Royal Navy's HMS Amethyst called there for supplies; she was based in Hong Kong, but had been on operations in Malaya.

Thanks to Russ Smith for his detailed review of the Skytrex HMS Berwick.
I have built this kit--it's primed and awaits the airbrush--and it is simply superb, despite its "age." The main armament and 4" secondary are simply beautiful.
