HMS Scylla (F71) was a Leander-class frigate of the Royal Navy (RN).
She was built at Devonport Royal Dockyard and was the last RN frigate to be built at the Dockyard so far.
The ship was 'planted' on a 23m sandy seabed next to the wreck of the liberty ship James Eagan Layne, which has been a popular dive site for many years.

It was probably inspired by the 1962 movie HMS Defiant, or Damn The Defiant as it was known in USA, which starred Alec Guinness and Dirk Bogarde.

An interesting find by Matt Liberty one of our members, is this set of first day issue stamps issued in Gibraltar in 1985 with the Firedrake's badge third from the left.
Second row: Two new photos of the Firedrake sometime after January 1942 in her new livery after the repairs had been carried out in America, the first one is of her entering the Clyde and the next one shows her in the Atlantic.
HMS Fame was one of Firedrake’s sisters, one of the 8th destroyer flotilla, she was at the sinking of U39 and at the second battle of Narvik.

HMS Obdurate (D139) was, during my time in her (1955-56), what we affectionately called the 'Chatham Canteen Boat' I think the official term was 'Chatham Local Unit'.
They said it was to keep us at instant readiness but we all knew it was to put obstacles, like 'liberty boats' in the way of our rush to Gillingham Station.
