HMS Loch Fada, HMS Loch Fada served in the Borneo Area from 1963 till 1966.
Recommissioned in Singapore approx 1966 and crewed from HMS Lincoln, the crew was all volunteer of 17 rating, a lieutenant as CO and a midshipman.

 HMS Loch Killisport
The Loch Killisport was one of six similar vessels in 1952 sailing under the command of the 6th Frigate Flotilla and based in Londonderry in Northern Ireland.
At the time they were the only vessels in the Royal Navy to have insignias on the funnel, in this case the Red Hand of Ulster.
It was in September 1951, I was posted to her at Londonderry Northern Ireland, as boy telegraphist,on completing my training at H.M.S. Ganges.

One was attached to HMS Vernon for mine warfare exercises and some, such as VIC 56, were classified as Naval Armament Vessels for the carriage of ammunition.
The most celebrated task allotted to VIC 56 was a voyage in April 1961 to the island of South Rona with construction materials to establish a base to monitor exercises.
The voyage was via the Caledonian Canal and the RN base at Loch Ewe where a sectioned hut and jeep were loaded on the hatch covers and a naval party taken onboard to help with the exercise, which was successfully completed in spite of the difficult navigational conditions.

The name HMS Loch Almond was an unofficial name used by the crew and came about when HMS Loch Alvie became beyond economical repair after a speed trial in Singapore in 1963 and the crew transferring to HMS Loch Lomond.
It was upon the return of Loch Alvie to the Dockyard, that the crew of Loch Killisport welcomed us with 'A Hard Day's Night' blasting away over her Tannoy system!!!

Looking back at the confrontation with the wisdom (and cynicism) of age, my immediate thoughts are that as a young (19/20) and lowly sailor on a small ship, I had little appreciation of the strategic or even the wider, tactical picture of naval operations in the war against Sukarno.
The Task Group was commanded by the Flag Officer Second Flotilla (FOF2) - Rear Admiral John D.E. Fieldhouse using HMS Glamorgan as his flagship.
This visit to Surabaya was significant in that it was the first visit to an Indonesia port by RN ships since the confrontation, although the Indonesian Navy had exercised with the New Zealanders as part of a SEATO exercise.
