The Lochs were based upon the hull of the preceding River class with increased sheer and flare to improve seakeeping and modified to suit it to mass pre-fabrication, with sections rivetted or welded together at the shipyard.
Loch Arkaig and Loch Tralaig were fitted with Parsons single reduction steam turbines to establish the feasability of such an installation, but it was not possible to provide enough sets of turbines for all vessels.
Loch Fada paid off in 1967 and was used to test an early vertical launch variant of the new Sea Wolf missile.

Loch Class Frigates look impressive number wise, 76 ships were laid down for the RN but less than half were completed, the remainder were converted to Bay class in build, Depot ships or cancelled when the war ended.
Loch Fada was later involved in Seawolf trials.
Loch Fynn, The two Squid Launchers are mounted in a barbette aft the main turret to protect them from waves breaking over the bow.

HMS Lincoln While operating out of Singapore, in December 1962, the frigate HMS Lincoln was deployed in support of military operations with the Gurkha Sappers and Rifles, and other British military units in Brunei and Sarawak.
HMS Lincoln carried long boats on the quarter deck which were specially used along with the ships boats to run the Gurkhas up the shallow rivers.
Recommissioned in Singapore approx 1966 and crewed from HMS Lincoln, the crew was all volunteer of 17 rating, a lieutenant as CO and a midshipman.

 Boat Hire Loch Lomond, Scotland
The Loch Lomond Rescue Boat (LLRB) was founded in 1977 from monies donated by an unknown sailor, with continuity of the service depending on grant assistance from the local council and the goodwill of the public and businesses.
The Boat is sited at the village of Luss in a boathouse on the west shore of Loch Lomond and is manned from a pool of around 20 local volunteers who train every Wednesday evening and Sunday morning.
The principle function of Operations is to ensure that a rescue service is provided for the public good and to encourage, promote and teach all aspects of safety in and around the waters of Loch Lomond including the safety of those persons using boats, canoes, wind-surfers, jet skis and other vessels on the Loch.

After 40-odd years this is rather a long shot, but in April, the Loch Class Frigates Association will be holding its annual reunion at Gillingham and it would be a splendid occasion in which we might all be able to meet up with him again.

At 07.20 hours on 20 Oct, 1940, the Loch Lomond (Master William James Park), a straggler from convoy HX-79, was torpedoed by U-100 southwest of Rockall.
The U-boat began shelling the abandoned ship at 14.15 hours until she sank after 79 shells were fired.
The master, 38 crew members and all survivors were picked up by the HMS Jason (J 99) (LtCdr R.E. Terry) and landed at Methil.

The name HMS Loch Almond was an unofficial name used by the crew and came about when HMS Loch Alvie became beyond economical repair after a speed trial in Singapore in 1963 and the crew transferring to HMS Loch Lomond.
It was upon the return of Loch Alvie to the Dockyard, that the crew of Loch Killisport welcomed us with 'A Hard Day's Night' blasting away over her Tannoy system!!!
Although mainly for those associated with the last commissions of these two fine ships, contributions are welcome from other commissions, via our message board
