 Broadsword Class Type 22 Frigates
When the batch 1 had been on the drawing board planners had toyed with the idea of designing them to be capable of supporting the Sea King and Wessex helicopters, but this idea was rejected and instead they carried two small Lynx.
However when designing the second batch, this decision was partly reversed, with Brave, London, Sheffield and Coventry being completed with a larger hanger and strengthened flight deck capable of operating a Sea King.
On October 21st 1992 London crossed decked helicopters with Russians in what was the 1st RN engagement with Soviet Union.

I recall the mess that was found when HMS Ocean went into operational service.
They found that the osmosis plant couldn't provide enough potable water for the ships needs and had to add another unit - now that is a serious design screwup.
So apart from the period starting from the mid-90's the UK shipbuilding industry did quite well out of the MoD.
