HMS Dreadnought introduced the concept of the all big-gun battleship, mounting up to 12 large calibre guns.
HMS Dreadnought also introduced the steam turbine into battleship design, in its way this was as revolutionary as the gun layout.
Even mixed-caliber battleships completed after HMS Dreadnought were referred to as "pre-dreadnoughts", since this was an accurate reflection of their fighting value.

In 1803, the Pickle was attached to the Admiral Cornwallis’ Inshore Squadron and was used for the close reconnaissance of the enemy harbours during the blockade of Brest, Rochefort and L’Orient.
The journey of HMS Pickle and the bearing of the news from Trafalgar is commemorated by Warrant Officers of the Royal Navy on November 5th, known as Pickle Night, in a similar celebration to that of Trafalgar Night celebrated by Commissioned Officers.

Through the intervention of Stephen Maturin at the Admiralty in H.M.S. Surprise, Jack Aubrey is given the small frigate HMS Surprise of 28 guns, aboard which he had served years before as a midshipman.
HMS Surprise is another genuine Royal Navy ship, although with a rather different history than that portrayed in O'Brian's novels.

Hinch is quickly becoming SF's Carrier King, and one of his projects is the HMS Victorious, after her post war angled deck modernisation.
THe recently released Sea Hurricane Ib is from the squadrom embarked on HMS Eagle in 1942.

H.M.S. Two months later on the 22nd of June, while ASTREA was cruising with a fleet of 25 vessels commanded by Admiral Bridport on board the magnificent first-rate vessel ROYAL GEORGE, a French fleet consisting of 23 vessels was sighted.
Using coordinates to the ASTREA wreck and to known points on Anegada Island from three different vessels which were present during the days right after the wreck, I was able to pinpoint the exact location of the wreck site within 250 feet.
