In 1915, under the command of Captain H. Talbot, Majestic joined the Mediterranean Fleet and participated in the Dardanelles Campaign including the final attempt to force the straits by naval power alone on March 18 1915.
On May 27, while stationed off W Beach at Cape Helles, Majestic became the third battleship to be torpedoed off the Gallipoli peninsula in two weeks.

 HMS Majestic
HMS Majestic was the name ship of the Majestic class of pre-dreadnought battleships.
At the outbreak of the First World War, HMS Majestic was in the Devonport dockyard, but she was soon returned to active duty as part of the 7th Battle Squadron of the Channel Fleet.
In early 1915 HMS Majestic was sent to the Dardenelles to form part of the big Anglo-French battleship squadron that was involved in naval attacks on the Turkish forts at the entrance to the straits.

HMS Majestic was the flagship of Vice-Admiral the Lord Walter T Kerr 1896.
The photograph shows the forecastle of HMS Majestic looking at the operation of making fast an anchor after it has been brought clear of the water- that is, bringing up the anchor from the hawse holes where the cable enters the ship, and "fishing" and securing it in its resting place on the ship's side.
The Majestic and the sister ships of her class carried by Admiralty regulation a company of 757 officers and men of all ranks and ratings; a force equal in numbers to the average strength of a battalion or regiment of the British Army in 1896.

He was then given command of the destroyer HMS Onslow on 7th May 1916, in which he made his name at the Battle of Jutland on 31st May 1916, for his great courage.
HMS Hood was blown up and sunk by the Bismarck and HMS Prince of Wales had to withdraw under cover of smoke, after being damaged, but was able to continue to shadow the German ship.
