HMS Malaya was withdrawn from service at the end of 1944 and placed in reserve and served as an accomodation ship.
The battlecruiser HMS Renown, battleship HMS Malaya, aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal, light cruiser HMS Sheffield and the destroyers HMS Fearless, HMS Foxhound, HMS Foresight, HMS Fury, HMS Encounter and HMS Jersey left Gibraltar to the west with convoy HG-53.
In the meantime 4 destroyers HMS Duncan, HMS Isis, HMS Firedrake and HMS Jupiter left Gibraltar and steamed to the east to conduct a anti-submarine sweep.

HMS valiant was badly damaged during refit in a floating dock at Trincomalee, Ceylon, so bad was the damage that repairs were stopped, and she was used as a training hulk for stockers at Devonport.
HMS WARSPITE was built at Devonport, Plymouth and launched 26th November 1913, Took part in the battle of Jutland and sustained 15hits and was close to foundering.
HMS Vanguard was the last of the great Royal navy battleships, built at Clydebank, she was launched on the 30th November 1944, and did not see service during world War Two, She was the biggest British battleship with a displacement of 42.500 tons.

 Battleships of the Royal Navy
Launched in January 1915, the Revenge-class battleship HMS Resolution was to enjoy a 33 year career during which she served in the Atlantic, home and Eastern Fleets as well as serving repeated spells in the Mediterranean, being both bombed and torpedoed along the way.
HMS Lion with her sister ship HMS Princess Royal are shown firing on the German High Seas Fleet which can be seen in the distance during the Battle of Jutland.
HMS Rodney was launched in 1925, like her sister ship the Nelson, Rodney saw action in many theatres, scoring the first hit on the Bismarck among other memorable exploits.

 HMS Malaya
HMS Malaya with the Greyhound class destroyer HMS Garland (2nd from Malaya) in the 1930's.
I know he was at HMS Ganges in 1920, served sometime in the Turkey area and was invalided with a weak heart sometime in the late 20s.
On the back is written that the vessel had collided with HMS Malaya of Leixoes (North Portugal) due to dense fog but was still able to proceed to the UK for repairs.

For this reason, sources which quote HMS Vanguard as having gun ranges in excess of 32,000 yards (29,260 m) are somewhat misleading, as such a range would have required the use of super charges, which were never issued to this or to any other ship with 30 degree mountings.
The post-war completed HMS Vanguard carried 95 APC, 5 HE and 9 practice shells per gun until she was converted to "Royal Yacht" duties in 1947, after which time she rarely carried any main gun ammunition at all.
As an example, in 1944 the non-reconstructed HMS Malaya mounted 20 mm Oerlikon AA guns atop "A" turret which were thus located directly below the muzzles of "B" turret.

The GSM 1962 was instituted with the specific aim of replacing the separate awards issued for both Army/RAAF [GSM] and Navy [NGSM].
In total, 68 medals were awarded for South Vietnam [32 to Officers and 36 to WO's] 3,000 medals were issued for Borneo most of which went to the Army.
Instituted on 8 June 1968, the VM was awarded for service in Vietnam from 29 May 1964 to 11 January 1973.

Young was a Swordfish pilot of 824 Squadron operating from HMS Eagle in the Mediterranean during the early part of the Second World War.
He was also one of the pilots aboard who were trained as a fighter pilot by Commander Charles Keighly-Peach to use the four Sea Gladiator which provided the fighter cover of the carrier.
The battleships HMS Warspite, HMS Ramilles and HMS Malaya, supported by the cruiser HMS Kent and three flotillas of destroyers bombarded Bardia harbour and Fort Capuzzo on 17 August, starting at 06:45 and continuing for 22 minutes.

She is taken in tow by HMS JANUS but later has to be scuttled.

She participated in the surprise assault on the British-occupied Sandwich Islands (Hawaii) and landed heavy blows on the HMS Collingwood and HMS Implacable, both of which were sunk during the British fleet’s sortie outside of Pearl Harbor.
She participated in raids on British and Japanese island bases in the Pacific and the Battle of Three Navies, where unfortunately she was struck by battleship shells (probably from the HMS Vanguard and/or HMS Exmouth) and suffered an ammunition explosion that sank her with most of her crew.

 King George V's Visits to Scapa Flow
He stayed with Admiral Beatty on the flagship, HMS Queen Elizabeth, where he was welcomed by all the Admirals, his son Prince Albert (later King George VI, then serving in HMS Malaya) and Midshipman "Dickie" Battenberg (later Earl Mountbatten).
On Friday 22nd the weather was still poor, so plans to go to sea with the Fleet for firing practice were put on hold and the King spent two hours touring the Queen Elizabeth, then went on board Revenge, King George V and Barham.
On Saturday 23rd the King visited the submarine depot-ship Lucia (formerly the German Spreewald), then lunched with Admiral Sturdee in HMS Hercules, before returning to Queen Elizabeth to sail with her, Barham, Malaya, Warspite and Valiant for firing practice in the Pentland Firth.

During conflict with German Capital ships on 23 May 1941, Walrus L2184 of 700 squadron in HMS Norfolk was damaged by shellfire from Prinz Eugen in the Denmark Strait whilst on its catapult.
On 14 January 1941, Walrus P5667 of 710 squadron (HMS Albatross) landed 120 miles west of Freetown, West Africa to assist survivors of SS Eumaeus sunk by a U-boat (Lt VBG Cheesman RM awarded MBE, Sub Lt WC Broadburn a MID, and CPO MW Dale awarded the BEM).
On 3 October 1941, Walrus R6543 of 700 (HMS London) flown by Sub Lt DJ Chaplin, Sub Lt OM Cairns, and L/A HW Barrett was on anti-submarine patrol ahead of the ship in White Sea, and sighted a submarine which it proceeded to depth charge.

The X-Craft training was conducted in Loch Striven, an isolated Loch in the West of Scotland, on their depot Ship, HMS Bonaventure which shared the water with HMS Malaya, an obsolete WW1 Battleship which was used as a training target.
The support staff were accommodated ashore near Port Bannatyne in HMS Varbel, both commanded by Commander (later Captain) W.E. Banks DSC RN - previously the C.O. of HMS Firedrake.
X24 was preserved at HMS Dolphin, Gosport, and is still there at the Submarine Museum.
