Neptune sortied from Alexandria with the Mediterranean Fleet and elements of the French Fleet for a naval demonstration south of Crete.
Neptune was present at the Battle of Punta Stilo on 9 July then moved back to the Eastern Med, scouting into the Gulf of Athens with HMAS Sydney and sinking a small tanker.
HMS Penelope was repaired at Malta but was bombed on 26 March 1942 while still under repair.

HMS Neptune (1797 at Deptford) was a 98-gun 2nd rate ship of the line which fought at the Battle of Trafalgar.
After the battle, it was the Neptune that towed the crippled Victory, bearing Nelson's body, back to Gibraltar.
Neptune served as the flagship for Rear Admiral Sir Alexander Cochrane leading the fleet that captured the French colony of Martinique in the West Indies in 1809.

HMS NEPTUNE sank with the loss of all but one of her Ship's company on the night of 19 December 1941.
She had been expected to leave the United Kingdom for New Zealand in May, but instead she was attached to the Seventh Cruiser Squadron in the Mediterranean because of the heavy loss of cruisers suffered during the Crete campaign.
At one o'clock in the morning, the ships were 20 miles from Tripoli when NEPTUNE triggered a mine with one of her paravanes.

HMS Achilles (from 1941 HMNZS Achilles) was a Leander class cruiser of 7,200 tons built in Birkenhead, England and launched on 1 September 1932.
As part of the scrapping her Y turret was removed and gifted to the New Zealand government, it is now on display at the entrance of Devenport Naval Base in Auckland.
In the early morning of 13th December a force consisting of Achilles, HMS Ajax (22) and Exeter detected smoke on the horizon, which was confirmed to be a pocket battleship, thought to be German battleship Admiral Scheer, at 06:16.

Petty Officer Frederick Weiss of HMS Neptune was my uncle on my mothers side,due to the break up of her family at a very young age she never knew him.Does anyone possibly have an old picture of him or any other information,I would be most grateful to hear from you.
The current HMS Neptune is the Clyde Submarine base at Faslane in Scotland.
The official wreck position for Neptune is 20 miles north of Tripoli but I think she is much closer.

He was sent to England to train for the navy on HM Schoolship Conway afloat in Liverpool, England also in the Royal Naval College Dartmouth as a cadet from June to December 1940.
Wade was present in the flagship battleship H.M.S Queen Elizabeth when the battleship HMS Barham was sunk by a German submarine on 25 November 1941.
Three nights later on 18 December 1941 in a wild stormy night, the cruiser HMS Neptune was sunk in an enemy minefield near Tripoli, Libya with only one survivor.

Norman Walton, 81, from Leeds, was the only man to survive when HMS Neptune sank in December 1941 after hitting a minefield in the Mediterranean off Tripoli.
Mr Walton, who was 20 at the time, survived at sea without food or fresh water for six days on a raft without food or fresh water before being rescued by an Italian ship.
Vice chair Nixie Taverner, whose father Rory O'Conor was captain of the Neptune, said it was important to pay tribute to the crew members who died.

This Saturday, come and plant a tree at Neptune Wood to commemorate 200 years since the Battle of Trafalgar.
HMS Neptune was the third ship in the column led by Lord Nelson in attacking the French and Spanish fleets at the battle.
Neptune Wood is being hosted by the Northmoor Trust as part of the Trust's Trafalgar Woods Project.  Over the next six weeks 23 schools, numerous community groups, members of the local community and Oxfordshire radio listeners will be planting the site with British, French and Spanish oaks to mark the 200th Anniversary of the battle.

If this is true, I meet a problem : there is a 1700 model called "HMS Neptune", she becomes "Neptune", and I upload a new album of pictures sent by Smaug of the "Neptune", a replica that could be seen in the movie "Pirates".
The only problem is the real vessel would have had the Spanish for Neptune, if there is such a thing.

Laid down in 1873 and was launched 10th September 1874.
She had problems on her initial attempt to be launched on the 16th July 1874, and on the second attempt HMS Neptune (Independencia) got stuck on the slipway which caused a lot of damage on the 30th July 1874.

They also went deep down under the sea on a nuclear submarine called HMS/ M Vengeance.
Whilst they were there they did lots of fitness work including the Royal Navy entry fitness test which is definitely not for the faint hearted.
