The fourth Norfolk (78) was a County-class heavy cruiser.
She was sold to Chile in 1982 and was retired of the chilean surface fleet in february 2006.To deccommissioned.
The sixth and current HMS Norfolk (F230) was commissioned in November 1989, and was the first of the Type 23 or 'Duke' Class frigates.

Served in HMS 'Bellerophon' in 1794 with Flinders, after he had been pardoned in 1792 for his part in the mutiny of the Bounty (Bligh's first breadfruit expedition to Tahiti).
Served on HMS 'Reliance' and along with Henry Waterhouse was the first to bring merino sheep to the new colony in New South Wales in 1796.

 HMS Norfolk
HMS Norfolk was the first of the modern generation of Type 23 frigates, launched by Princess Margaret in July 1987 and taking up the mantle of Naval service in November 1989.
The two antecedents of these Norfolks were a cutter hired for Naval use from 1807-12, and a third rate built in 1757 and scrapped in 1774.
The original HMS Norfolk of 1693 was an 80-gun Ship of the Line which won her first Battle Honour at Velez Malaga against a Franco-Spanish Fleet in 1704.

On 28 April Captain John Alread, Commander of H.M.S. ESSEX {also called the ESSEX-PRIZE] having heard of the pirates' exploits came ashore and informed H. Francis Nicholson H.M. Governor General of Virginia and Captain Passenger of H.M.S. SHOREHAM that there was a Pirate in Lyn-Haven Bay.
She was joined by HMS HENRY PRIZE, but by 1692 she needed to be careened and cleaned, and in 1693 was deemed unfit.
HMS DOVER PRIZE arrived to replace HMS HENRY PRIZE, the man-of-war commanded by an ex pirate, Thomas Pound.

 Navy News - Ships of the Royal Navy - HMS Norfolk
The frigate HMS Norfolk is currently quiet alongside in her home port of Devonport, but that is because the Type 23's crew have been significantly involved in Operation Fresco, the Navy's support during the firefighters strike.
Recently another 40 of the Type 23's company have been drafted to firefighting duties in order to relieve personnel deploying for Middle East contingency operations, and the ship is now dormant in her Plymouth home.
Prior to her firefighting duties, HMS Norfolk had been involved in NATO anti-terrorist shipping patrols in the eastern Mediterranean.
