  George Vancouver - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
George Vancouver (June 22, 1757 – May 12, 1798) was an officer of the Royal Navy, best known for his exploration of North America, including the Pacific coast along present-day Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia; he also explored the southwest coast of Australia.
He was then posted aboard the sloop HMS Martin, on patrol in the English Channel.
HMS Discovery (not Cook's ship) was purchased specifically for this mission.

Norfolk was involved in many famous encounters during WWII, and was scrapped in 1950.
She was sold to Chile in 1982 and was retired of the chilean surface fleet in february 2006.To deccommissioned.
The sixth and current HMS Norfolk (F230) was commissioned in November 1989, and was the first of the Type 23 or 'Duke' Class frigates.

Captain Phillips, HMS Norfolk, who at one time was commander of Hood, associated this hit with the starboard upper deck torpedo tubes, and stated that he saw a bright flash in about that position.
NORFOLK was in a position on the starboard quarter of HOOD at a range of approximately 20,000 yds.

The frigate HMS Norfolk is currently quiet alongside in her home port of Devonport, but that is because the Type 23's crew have been significantly involved in Operation Fresco, the Navy's support during the firefighters strike.
HMS Norfolk was the first of the modern generation of Type 23 frigates, launched by Princess Margaret in July 1987 and taking up the mantle of Naval service in November 1989.
The original HMS Norfolk of 1693 was an 80-gun Ship of the Line which won her first Battle Honour at Velez Malaga against a Franco-Spanish Fleet in 1704.

He was a midshipman on HMS Monmouth from 2 July 1689 to 2 March 1689/90, and on HMS Edgar from 3 March 1689/90 to 26 October 1691, and later from 16 December 1690 to 2 February 1690/1.
By 1 July 1691 he was Second Lieutenant on HMS Northumberland, and was with her at the battle of Barfleur in 1692.
For the next five years HMS Nightingale was on seemingly routine duties escorting colliers and corn ships between the Forth, Tyne, Humber and Thames, protecting them from French privateers.

With the operation complete, HMS Arrow, HMS Acheron, and HMS Bulldog are detached to Rosyth while the rest put into Scapa Flow to refuel 1940 - HMS Furious, though now with a failing engine, continues to support the Allied effort.
The tools belonged to HMS Victory's surgeon William Beatty who used them on Nelson during the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.Beatty tried in vain to save Nelson after the admiral was shot by a sniper from the rigging of a French warship.

The only Norfolk building designed by Robert Adam is St Andrew's Church, Gunton (5 miles north of Aylsham, signposted beyond Gunton Hall).
One reason why Norfolk church towers are round is that the local building stone is flint, with which it is difficult to make corners.
In the porch of Wells Church is the gravestone of John Fryer, who was the sailing master on HMS Bounty at the time of the famous mutiny.

HMS Victory was Lord Nelson's flagship when he died, having won a decisive victory at the battle of Trafalgar 21 October 1805.
Victory was launched on the 7th May 1765 and is the only 18th century 'line of battle' ship still in existence.

The most probably being that, as his father was an Excise Officer based at Plymouth, the family waited until the birth of the next child before coming back to the ancestral home for baptism.
He joined the Royal Navy in 1770 where he served on HMS Hunter and became a Midshipman in 1771, serving on HMS Crescent and HMS Ranger.
In 1797, he commanded HMS Director at the battle of Camperdown and as Captain of HMS Glatton in 1801 took part in the battle of Copenhagen, after which he was commended for his bravery by Admiral Nelson.

Since Waddell was a mariner it is interesting to consider whether William may have been employed by him, or was even his apprentice, and thus readily available to witness this document.
