The third Penelope was a 36-gun fifth-rate launched in 1798 and wrecked in 1815.
The fifth Penelope was an armoured corvette launched in 1867 that became a prison hulk in 1897 and was sold in 1912.
The seventh Penelope was a tender purchased in 1918 and sold in 1922.

HMS Fife was shipshape and Bristol fashion that day and I thoroughly enjoyed the tour, especially as I'm ex-US Navy and a destroyerman for life.
Served on HMS Fife (D20) March 1982-85, I remember being crash drafted to the Fife (Banana Boat) from a cushy job at PCG in HMS Vernon at the start of the Falklands only to find she was still in refit.
There was a good documentry series here on HMS Brilliant and a run she made through the Med probably back in the late 80's early 90's It is sad to realise the old ships are either scrap or sold to third world navies especially the leanders and the County Class.

She was towed clear by the HMS Eskimo 1941 - President Roosevelt tells Churchill that the US Navy will extend the American Defensive Zone to 26 degrees West.
She was eventually towed to Baltimore, arriving on 24 June, where the ship was repaired and returned to service in 1943 as Annibal 1943 - HMAS Pirie, a minesweeper, and the British vessel Hanyang bound from Milne Bay to Oro Bay were attacked by a large force of enemy planes.
Battleships HMS Queen Elizabeth and FS Richelieu are part of this fleet 1945 - USS Missouri & Enterprise are damaged by Kamikaze attacks off Okinawa along with USS Kidd, Samuel S. Miles and an LCS(L).

PENELOPE worked up to the centre of the enemy line as far as the shoal water would allow while ANTELOPE went round the Stroom Sand and the two of them engaged every part of the line from four o'clock until eight.
At the beginning of 1809 PENELOPE took part in the blockade of Guadaloupe and on 30 January assisted in landing the troops under Lieut.
It was decided that the loss of PENELOPE was due to the state of the weather and the set of the current.

 Hissem_Biddle Family
He was born on 18 February 1783 in Philadelphia and joined the Navy in 1800.
While I'm not certain he is the Commodore's son, he was in possession of a silver medal given to Commodore Biddle as a Lieutenant for his part in the capture of the FROLIC.
Captain Biddle took his fourth prize back to Charleston and was blockaded there until late February 1778, when he successfully eluded the British patrol and escaped to the open sea.

HMS Conqueror, in the meantime, had taken up its patrol station to the west of the Falkland Islands on 1st April.
Thankfully HMS Engadine, the helicopter support ship, was able to take eight of the homeless Harriers, whilst four of the fleet support ships, those having large helicopter support facilities, took one of the remaining four Harriers each.

For the "intent and purpose" of a "hospital for the reception of sick and hurt seaman of H. Royal Navy."6 In 1790, more land was added for a Careening Yard; and, in 1814, more land was taken for the admiral's residence.
The ship Penelope, in which he embarked, had the transports under her convoy, one of which parted company three days after they left Spithead.

Joseph Baker, the second son of the James and Nancy (née Ludlow and from Ludlow in Shropshire) Baker, was born in Bristol early in 1768.
Broughton took command of HMS Illustrious and, in 1809, was part of the expedition under Lord Gambier against the French Brest fleet in Aix Roads.
Henry joined HMS Orontes as a volunteer before joining his uncle, Alan Gardner, on HMS Courageux in 1790 (Vancouver was a lieutenant on the ship at the time).

Sept./95 On 24 August 1798 MAGNAMINE and NAIAD captured the French frigate DECADE off Cape Finisterre and on 12 October she was with Sir John WARREN's squadron in action with the French off the coast of Ireland.
On the 25 December 1804, due to the neglect of her captain MALLARD grounded near Calais and was captured.
In July MELPOMENE and PENELOPE were responsible for the coast between Yarmouth and Orfordness.

A daughter, Mary Elizabeth, was born to William and Sarah on 15 April 1870 and a few months later, Sgt. William embarked on the HMS Trafalgar, on which he served until 8 June 1872.
He later served on HMS Duncan from 7 September 1873 to 30 Sept. 1874 and was promoted to Colour Sergeant on 21 May 1875.
He was on HMS Impregnable from 11 December 1875 to 30 September 1878, during which time his wife died of “Phthisis” (tuberculosis) on 2 March 1877 at 32 years of age.

COM is a civic-minded nonprofit organization that operates many community events in and around Pawtuxet Village, including the famous Gaspee Days Parade each June.
These events are all designed to commemorate the burning of the hated British revenue schooner, HMS Gaspee, by Rhode Island patriots in 1772 as 'America's First Blow for Freedom'®.
We also have not been able to establish a relationship to George Brown, the lawyer that falsely denied knowledge of the meeting at Sabin's Tavern to plan the attack on the Gaspee.

 Lucraft and Luckraft One-name Study: October 2005
A property Assessment for 1783 lists John Chatham as the owner of a parcel of land of 132 acres called Lucraft’s Delight in the 6th taxing district of Maryland.
The Penelope was wrecked on 1st May 1815 in the Lower St Lawrence seaway, with the loss of 37 hands; 20 seamen, 6 mariners and 11 boys.
We have no age record for John as yet, but there is an extract of the HMS Penelope’s fate overleaf.

1776 Sep 6, The Turtle, the 1st submarine invented by David Bushnell, attempted to secure a cask of gunpowder to the HMS Eagle, flagship of the British fleet, in the Bay of NY but got entangled with the Eagle’s rudder bar, lost ballast and surfaced before the charge was planted.
The siege was finally lifted on Feb 7, 1783.
An American attack on a British convoy pitted the British frigate HMS Serapis against the American Bon Homme Richard.
