 HMS Arab - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The first Arab was a 16-gun sloop-of-war, originally the French Jean Bart, captured in 1795 in the English Channel by Cerberus and Santa Margarita, and wrecked in 1796.
The second Arab was an 8-gun schooner, originally the French Arabe, captured in 1797, and renamed Ant in 1798.
The third Arab was a 2-gun sixth-rate, originally the French Brave, captured in 1798 by Phoenix and sold in 1810.

HMS RESOLUTE was built as PTARMIGAN and purchased by the Admiralty on 21 February 1850.
The following morning at 11 o`clock the wooden steam frigate HMS SHANNON saluted the American ensign with 21 guns, after which RESOLUTE changed her colors to English and the Portsmouth garrison battery (on the flagstaff of which was hoisted the Stars and Stripes) fired another 21 gun salute.
In 1879, when RESOLUTE was finally broken up, a desk was made from her timbers which was presented by Queen Victoria to President Rutherford S. Hayes.

In 1879 she was fitted with the first interior electric light on the North Atlantic, with four lamps in the cabin class saloon and two in steerage.
On 29th Apr.1941 she was torpedoed and sunk by U.75 (Ringelmann) in the Atlantic 600 miles west of Valentia Island, Ireland in position 52.30N 26.00W while sailing independently on a voyage Glasgow to Natal, Bombay and Karachi via Freetown with 274 passengers and 2184 tons of general cargo.
On 24/5/1941 she was torpedoed and sunk by the British submarine HMS UPHOLDER while 10 miles from Sicily, with the loss of 1,212 lives.

 Bermuda's History from 1700 to 1899
The Bermuda-built small warship HMS Pickle of the Royal Navy played a unique role in the Battle of Trafalgar in which the Royal Navy, with 448 dead and 1,241 wounded, soundly defeated the French.
Three years after she achieved her claim to fame at the Battle of Trafalgar, the Bermuda-built cedar schooner HMS Pickle struck a shoal when entering the Spanish port of Cadiz and was lost.
Colonel Arnold devised the early massive building and engineering program for HM Dockyard, that led to Bermuda being referred to later as the "Gibraltar of the West." His obvious accomplishments, skills and obvious leadership qualities in Bermuda were such that he was marked for prompt promotion and increased military responsibilities.

Resold to the British Admiralty, she was converted to an aircraft carrier and on 5th Nov.1918 was sunk in collision with HMS REVENGE in the Firth of Forth.
In 1879 she was the first trans Atlantic liner to be fitted with interior electric lighting.
On 19/12/1939 she was intercepted by HMS HYPERION, 300 miles east of Norfolk, Virginia, while attempting to return to Bremerhaven, and was set fire to by the crew and scuttled to avoid capture.

Her next victims were the storeladen LOVELY ANN, the schooner PHOENIX, which was sunk, the man-of-war PICTOU and the brig CATHARINE, captured and sunk off the coast of Guiana.
This back-breaking task was carried out and when a breeze sprang up at dawn on July 18, CONSTITUTION was far enough ahead of her pursuers to escape by sail.
Commodore William Bainbridge in command of "Old Ironsides," was wounded twice, and the ship's wheel was shot away, but for more than 2 hours he maneuvered brilliantly and fought tenaciously until, finally, JAVA had no masts left standing and her Captain lay dying.

She reached Yokosuka on the 12th and, after visiting that port and Sasebo, put to sea to join a carrier task group—built around Bairoko (CVE-115) and HMS Ocean off the western coast of Korea.

HMS Resolution was laid down at the Palmers dockyard in Jarrow-on-tyne in November 1913, completed in January 1916 and was one of five "R" class battleships, the other's being Royal Oak, Royal Sovereign, Ramillies and Revenge.
The force arrived off of Dakar on the 23rd, Resolution, and HMS Barham were deployed to attack the french ships including the battleship Richelieu at anchor in the port.
In October 1941 HMS Warspite arrived in America to have repairs carried out and many of her crew transferred to Resolution.
