HMS Renown was the lead ship of a class of three 26,500-ton battlecruisers of the Royal Navy, the other two being HMS Repulse and the cancelled Resistance.
After a decade of further service, Renown was again reconstructed, greatly changing her appearance and giving her a modern anti-aircraft gun battery, much enhanced aircraft-handling facilities, and up-to-date gunfire controls.
Renown had brief post-war service in British waters and was sold for scrapping in March 1948.

Laid down in January 1915 and completed twenty months later, Renown was one of two very fast battlecruisers ordered by the Admiralty on the strength of the success of the Invincible-class ships over Admiral Graf von Spee's squadron at the Battle of the Falklands.
The latter deficiency was never threatened during World War I, but during Renown's two interwar refits (1923-26 and 1936-39), an effort was made to improve her defense against torpedo and aircraft attack.
From 1940 to 1943 she saw action with Force H in the Mediterranean, sailing as a convoy escort and taking part in the bombardment of Genoa in February 1941.
