The second Rodney was a 16-gun vessel, possibly a brig-sloop, in service in 1781 and captured by the French 23 January 1782 at Demerara.
The third Rodney was a 74-gun third-rate launched in 1809, razeed and renamed Greenwich in 1827, and sold 1836.
Rodney was to have been a 33,600 ton Hood-class battlecruiser of 810ft length, 105ft beam, armed with 8-15in and 16-5.5in guns.

In September 1743 Rodney was appointed to HMS Sheerness, and in October 1744 transferred to HMS Ludlow Castle, serving in the North Sea.
Rodney, with HMS Achilles as his flagship, was immediately appointed to command a squadron, which on the 6th July bombarded Le Havre, destroying the stores and flat bottomed boats prepared for the contemplated invasion of England.
Rodney’s return was welcomed since the Admiralty was finding it difficult to maintain public confidence in a navy with few naval commanders of any significant talent.

Assigned to Admiral Sir James Somerville's Force H based at Gibraltar, Rodney helped maintain the vital lifeline to Malta; she sailed in support of the Operation Torch landings in North Africa in November 1942, and again during the invasion of Sicily in July 1943.

He was then given command of the destroyer HMS Onslow on 7th May 1916, in which he made his name at the Battle of Jutland on 31st May 1916, for his great courage.
HMS Hood was blown up and sunk by the Bismarck and HMS Prince of Wales had to withdraw under cover of smoke, after being damaged, but was able to continue to shadow the German ship.
At 0800 the next morning, the Bismarck faced the combined fire of HMSs King George V and Rodney and sustained heavy damage within an hour, although she was able to continue to return fire.

McSweeney was brought to Malta on HMS Childers in February for his Court Martial on the 25th and 27th February 1837, on board HMS Revenge, which was moored in Grand Harbour.
The Court heard how McSweeney joined HMS Rodney when she was first commissioned in 1835, and that he was quartered at the after main deck Quarter, under the charge of Lieutenant Payne.
HMS Rodney was being refitted in Port Mahon, Minorca, when ordered to proceed to Malta for the express purpose of McSweeney’s execution.

HMS BARFLEUR was part of Admiral Richard Howe’s fleet at the Glorious First of June, 1794, against France’s Rear Admiral Villaret-de-Joyeuse, when the British defeated the French.
HMS BARFLEUR then flew the flag of Vice Admiral W. Waldegrave at the Battle of Cape St. Vincent, fought on February 14, 1797.

 British Navy Ships--HMS Argus (1918-1946)
Begun as the Italian passenger liner Conte Rosso, the ship's construction was suspended after the outbreak of World War I. She was purchased unlaunched in 1916 and converted into an aircraft carrier, the World's first to have a full-length flight deck upon which wheeled aircraft could land and take-off with relative safety.
HMS Argus was sold for scrapping in December 1946.

HMS Legion was damaged by aircraft bombs and suffered hull breaches in Malta on March 24th 1942, and later sunk on March 26th 1942.
