  Devonshire Class Cruisers of the Royal Navy
HMS Antrim was put into reserve at the Nore in 1919 but was refitted as a wireless and Asdic trials ship and recommissioned in March 1920.
HMS Argyll was commissioned for the 1st Cruiser Squadron of the Channel Fleet in 1906 but joined the 5th Cruiser Squadron of the Atlantic Fleet in 1909.
HMS Carnarvon served with the Mediterranean Fleet in the 3rd Cruiser Squadron until March 1907 three months after this she was recommissioned and joined the 2nd Cruiser Squadron in the Atlantic Fleet.

 hms argyll
In 1906 she was allocated to the 1st Cruiser squadron, which was part of the Channel Fleet, and in 1909 joined the UK Atlantic Fleet as part of the 5th Cruiser Squadron.
The third and current HMS Argyll (F231) is a Type 23 'Duke' Class frigate and was built by Yarrow Shipbuilders at Glasgow, launched in 1989 by Lady Wendy Levene, and commissioned in May 1991.
HMS Argyll is currently undergoing Sea Training to prepare for her re-entry back into the fleet, after her second 'Docking Period' in early 2003, in which removing, renewing and fitting new equipment and maintenance was done.

 Armoured Cruisers - WW1 Naval Combat
HMS Endymion like most of the Edgar class started the war as part of the 10th Cruiser Squadron which was tasked with enforcing the northern blockade on Germany.
HMS Devonshire, Antrim, Argyll, Carnarvon, Hampshire, Roxburgh Laid down 1902, completed 1905.
She was one of the many armoured cruisers sunk during the war with many of the rest relegated to secondary tasks by the end, the type being superseded by the battlecruiser.

He devised a device to teach faster loading (the loading tray), more accurate sighting (the "dotter" and the deflection teacher) and was chiefly responsible for a marked improvement in the gunnery of the fleet.
While Captain of HMS Terrible, then enroute to the China Station, he was diverted to Durban to lend assistance to the army in the Boer War.
The Channel Fleet was at Portland and Lord Charles Beresford was the C-in-C. He made a signal that the annual gunnery exercises were suspended to that they could all "paint ship" for a visit by the German Emperor.

On the 16th of July, 1944 HMS CHELSEA was transferred to the Russian Navy as DERSKNI from 1944 to 1949.
HMS Campbletown boldly steamed up three Loire estuary under intense German fire, and struck the caisson of the dry dock at 0134 hrs.

As part of the Trafalgar celebrations, some of us had the good fortune last week to attend a reception on HMS Invincible in the presence of Her Majesty the Queen.
What we did not necessarily appreciate at the time was the fact that it may have been the ship's swansong as we now hear that it is to be mothballed.
The fate of HMS Invincible is symbolic of the major changes taking place as a result of the defence White Paper.

 Campaigners for War Grave Commemorations
Julin's first sea-service was aboard HMS "Australia" 27/3/1895-26/3/1896, followed shortly after in joining HMS "Intrepid" for three years 28/4/1896-8/7/1899.
After service with HMS "Intrepid" Julin spent the next four years at the Portsmouth Barracks and other shore based establishments.
In March 1904 he embarked aboard HMS "Hercules" for five months, returning to the Portsmouth Barracks in early October 1904 and was promoted Sergeant 11/10/1904.

On the 15th March 2002, a small group of HMS Firedrake association members made a presentation of the ships badge and a copy of the painting to the Manager of the Union Jack Club in London.
The ships badge will hang it the Entrance Hall surrounded by lots of other badges from all three services, the painting with a plaque with information of what happened on the 17/12/42 will hang in the bar.
Terence Ridley’s remarkable intellect manifested itself early in his naval career when he won the Robert Roxburgh prize for academic achievement at Dartmouth naval college in 1932.

Her Captain signaled to Scott's flagship, HMS Good Hope, whether he ought to abandon the practice in order to enter Portland as commanded by the Commander in Chief.
While the signal did not directly insult the Commander in Chief, it indicated a lack of tact on Scott's part and, in his position, it was overtly insubordinate.

James II of Scotland was killed by a burst cannon at the siege of Roxburgh in 1460.
More information on naval warfare with cannon around 1812 can be found in Naval Warfare in the Age of Sail, which includes some photographs of cannon and a discussion of the different types used on ships.
HMS Warrior, the large iron steam frigate launched in 1860 and now exhibited in Portsmouth, was furnished with a broadside of 68-pounders at the blockheaded insistence of the Admiralty, who could not conceive of a ship without such armament.

Of interest, the submarine depicted in the Robert Taylor painting Secret Operation, the HMS Sceptre, is mentioned on page 205 as its commander, I.S. McIntosh (who has signed the print) towed the midget submarine X.24 to Norway where it entered Bergen Harbour to blow up a floating dry dock in 1945.
Depicted is the British Royal Navy's submarine HMS Dreadnought with "571" on the conning tower or "sail".

 Maritime disaster remembered - This Is Pembrokeshire
The crosses were added to the official wreaths laid during a moving service conducted by Rev A. Turner assisted by Bishop James Roxburgh, of Liverpool, and Bishop Ivor Rees, former Bishop of St Davids.
Tribute was paid during the service to the 73 men of HM Landing Craft Gun 15 and 16, who were lost in April 1943, and six men of the vessel HMS Rosemary, which went to their rescue.
The Roll of Honour was read by Mr Eric Lovatt, friend of Lieutenant Roxburgh of LCG 15, Mr Geoff Lloyd, survivor of LCG 16 and Lieutenant Commander T. Peake for HMS Rosemary, while the bugler was Royal Marine P. Hawkins.
