She is best known under the name HMS Sirius, as the flagship of the First Fleet, which set out from England in 1787 to establish the first European colony in New South Wales.
She sailed under the command of Captain John Hunter and carried Arthur Phillip, the Governor of the colony which was to be established.
She remained in the colony until 2 October 1788 when she was sent from Port Jackson to the Cape of Good Hope to get flour and other supplies for the almost starving colony, a voyage that took over seven months.

HMS Sirius (F40) was a Leander-class frigate of the Royal Navy (RN) built by H.M. Dockyard Portsmouth, and was the penultimate RN warship to be built there as of 2005 (although Vosper Thorneycroft have since begun building HMS Clyde at a private facility in Portsmouth).
In 1970, Sirius again deployed to the sunny climes of the West Indies, where she would perform the role of guardship in that region.
In 1975, Sirius began her modernisation which included the removal of her single 4.5-in twin gun in favour of the Exocet anti-ship missile system, as-well as the amount of SeaCat missiles she carried, increased.

Sirius returned to the Aegean and was present during the reoccupation of Athens in October 1944.
I joined H.M.S Sirius on the 9th of May 1942 and remained with her until after the d-day landings in Normandy were established.

HMS Argonaut and her company were adopted by the City of Coventry after HMS Coventry the Ceres Class Light Cruiser had been sunk in September 1942 off the cost of Egypt by German JU-87 dive-bombers.
On December 14th 1942 HMS Argonaut was hit by two torpedoes from the Italian Submarine Mocenigo and was badly damaged with both her bow and stern blown off.
HMS Hero developed problems with her engines and was detached by the Admiralty on April 9th and the Argonaut was left on her own to cross the Atlantic.

 Sirius - Tree For All
Sirius was fired on when she came a little too close to the French Heros as she inspected an approaching merchant ship, but this proved to be American and she was allowed to proceed on her way.
Sirius fought several actions with ships of her own calibre, the first in 1798 under Captain Richard King off Texel on the 24th October when she fell in with two Dutch ships, the Waakgamheid (24 guns) and the Furie (36 guns) which she pursued and captured.
Sirius was stationed in the West Indies in 1809 and supported the capture of Martinique, capturing the French brig Edward, which fled as British forces seized the island.

The frigate HMS Sirius was launched in april 1797 at Dudman's yard on the river Thames at Deptford.
The cannon balls recovered on the Sirius are mainly 80 to 90 mm shots for 9-pounder guns, 120 to 140 mm shots for 18-pounder cannons, 150 to 160 mm shots for 36-pounder carronnades, 40 to 70 mm grape shots, 26 to 38 mm case shots and 150 mm double headed shots.
The remaining hull of the Sirius under the mud is covered with copper sheathing suggesting that the remains of the ship form part of the quick work.

This article is about the build of the recently released model of HMS Sirius, Dido class AA cruiser in 1:350 scale from Iron Shipwright (IS)/ Commander’s Models.
The kit is for HMS Sirius 1942, however, I chose to build it as the sister ship HMS Naiad as she appeared in 1940.
In 1935 the Admiralty decided to rearm and chose two types of cruisers to build, the large Town Class (HMS Sheffield) that was competitive with US and Japanese designs and a significantly smaller ship that could be rapidly built in large numbers to fill the critical numerical shortfall in cruisers.

During 1972-74 I was part of the Royal Marine Detachment aboard HMS Sirius.
The Sirius, (a Leander class frigate, and named after the Dog Star, the brightest star in the Northern sky), was designated West Indies Guard Ship and patrolled between Bermuda and Venezuela via Florida and the Caribbean islands.
So Sirius was ‘requested’ to provide a guard for the commodore’s residence on Ireland Island, (Bermuda is a series of islands linked by bridges and causeways).

Ensign Two has pictures of Dido taken in 1940 and 1947 clearly showing open galleries and a picture of her taken in 1945 with the area closed off with a series of vertical lines or panels at the appropriate location.
The major difference between the Iron Shipwright HMS Sirius and the 1940 Naiad is not in the additions but the subtractions.

This is a sad story for us to read today but both Collins and Hacking were men of their times, and perhaps Henry felt he was (or indeed perhaps he really was) in mortal danger.
His account was, that, being in the woods, a stone was thrown at him from one of two natives whom he perceived behind him, and that on looking about he found dispersed amoung the trees a number that could not be less than forty.
