Sirius was fired on when she came a little too close to the French Heros as she inspected an approaching merchant ship, but this proved to be American and she was allowed to proceed on her way.
Sirius fought several actions with ships of her own calibre, the first in 1798 under Captain Richard King off Texel on the 24th October when she fell in with two Dutch ships, the Waakgamheid (24 guns) and the Furie (36 guns) which she pursued and captured.
Sirius was stationed in the West Indies in 1809 and supported the capture of Martinique, capturing the French brig Edward, which fled as British forces seized the island.

The frigate HMS Sirius was launched in april 1797 at Dudman's yard on the river Thames at Deptford.
The cannon balls recovered on the Sirius are mainly 80 to 90 mm shots for 9-pounder guns, 120 to 140 mm shots for 18-pounder cannons, 150 to 160 mm shots for 36-pounder carronnades, 40 to 70 mm grape shots, 26 to 38 mm case shots and 150 mm double headed shots.
The remaining hull of the Sirius under the mud is covered with copper sheathing suggesting that the remains of the ship form part of the quick work.

Her crew regarded her rather differently, and claimed that she sailed at a faster speed at night than during the day, being bewitched because she must be built of stolen timber.
Returning to Europe with Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar, she was the last in line of the division led by HMS Victory, and with Minotaur, engaged the French and Spanish ships cut off at the front of their fleet.

Four years later (22 December 1786) he was transferred to the HMS Sirius as an Abel Seaman and later (13 May 1787) set off with the rest of the First Fleet to the British colony at New South Wales.
By February 1790, the colony was once again short of supplies, so the Sirius and the Supply were sent to Norfolk Island to relocate two hundred of the convicts to ease the burden.
He was given command of the Expedition on 20 July 1796 and died of unknown causes in 1797 at the young age of twenty-eight.

Stranded at Norfolk Island after Sirius was wrecked in March 1790, he returned to Port Jackson by 'Supply' in February 1791 and went back to the island by the same ship in March 1791 to become a settler.
WATSON, Robert (1756-1819), harbourmaster, arrived with the First Fleet as quartermaster of H.M.S. Sirius, and was still serving in that capacity when the ship was wrecked at Norfolk Island in 1790.
Robert Watson was Quartermaster and sail maker on HMS Sirius and is reputed to have been one of the first to set foot on Australian soil.

I don't think the slaves freed by the British ships would have would have thought ill of the navy for violating the 'rights' of neutral vessels - if it involves freeing slaves then interfering in other countries affairs is fully justified.
In your transporting slaves to Brasil example, of course British ships had a right to interfere - all countries had and have an absolute right, if not a duty, to suppress the slave trade whereever it is found and whoever is carrying it out.

On Friday, 25th January, the H.M.S. Supply made history by being the first ship to sail into Port Jackson where she dropped anchor at Sydney Cove, (now Circular Quay) at 7 p.m.
She was the only ship of the First Fleet to return to Australia apart from the "Sirius" and the "Supply" which sailed to Cape Town and back.
She was badly burnt in a fire and was bought and rebuilt by the Navy in 1786 and renamed "Sirius".

By September the situation was so bad that the last cow had been killed for meat and the HMS Sirius had been despatched to Cape Town to bring back any food they could get.
