HMS Vanguard was the last of the great Royal navy battleships, built at Clydebank, she was launched on the 30th November 1944, and did not see service during world War Two, She was the biggest British battleship with a displacement of 42.500 tons.
HMS Vanguard (the eighth Vanguard) Built by Vickers at barrow and launched in April 1909 and joined the Royal Navy at Devonport in October 1910.

This is the Tri-ang Minic Ships model of HMS Vanguard, the last and most powerful British battleship ever built, which was laid down during the Second World War but was not completed and commissioned until 1946.
HMS Vanguard's main armament comprised eight 15 inch guns in four turrets, two forward and two aft, which were left over from HMS Glorious and HMS Courageous after they were both converted to aircraft carriers during construction.

 VANGUARD, COURAGEOUS and GLORIOUS - Their 15" Guns
The general belief is that Vanguard's 8 main guns, their mounts and turrets came from HMS COURAGEOUS and HMS GLORIOUS, when these were converted to aircraft carriers.
It is clear from this log that although Vanguard's main turrets and mounts came from Courageous and Glorious, only one of the big guns came from one of them, and that was indirectly, as it had been in HMS WARSPITE in the intervening period.
It seems that Vanguard's 15 inch guns came from HMS QUEEN ELIZABETH (2), HMS RAMILLIES (2), HMS ROYAL SOVEREIGN (1), HMS RESOLUTION (1) and the monitor HMS EREBUS (1), as well as the one that came via HMS WARSPITE.

The VANGUARD is my third ship, and a HUGE switch from the little cruisers I had been using (the only ships bigger are the USS Iowa and IJN Yamato).
Part of the desire of building the HMS Vanguard is that there is no kit of this ship (and hence few others are ever seen).
Only the three largest ships in our hobby (Yamato, Iowa, and Vanguard) are allowed to put their sidemounts paired up like this (the idea is that the two bb's will hit close together and do more damage, making it a real killer in close).
