The latest HMS Warspite was the third of Britain's nuclear-powered submarines, and the second (and final) of the Valiant class.
She was launched on 25 September 1965 by the wife of the then British Prime Minister, Harold Wilson, and entered service 18 April 1967.

With 1834 squadron, HMS Victorious took part in strikes on oil refineries in Sumatra in January 1945, then involved in operations against Japanese airfields in the Sakishima Gunto off Okinawa in April and May, and in the final operations with the US 3rd Fleet against mainland Japan in July and August, 1945.
From 1941 to 1943 Coleridge was on the instructing staff at Osprey and at HMS Nimrod, the anti-submarine school at Campbelltown, Argyll.
In 1942, Air Signal Officer at RNAS Arbroath, HMS Indomitable at Kilindini in East Africa, and at HMS Bherunda, on Colombo racecourse in Ceylon.

In October 1968, Warspite rather embarrassingly collided with a Russian Echo 2 submarine it had been shadowing in the Barents Sea, causing serious damage to its large central fin.
Her hull and reactor are currently laid up afloat at Devonport Dockyard, Plymouth, Devonshire until facilities are available for the long term storage of her radioactive components.

Between 1965 and 1985 radioactive water from the mill was released directly into the Vlatava river, via a 20km underground canal.
Vital contol rods were mistakenly pulled out of the vessel's reactor, causing an explosion which killed 10 sailors and spewed radioactive materials into the air and sea.
The fire, which required two fire engines to extinguish, was later described as occurring in a non-essential switchboard area of the vessel.
