  HMS Resolution, Naval Art Print
HMS Resolution, a revenge-class battleship is shown superbly in this new naval limited edition art print by renowned naval artist Ivan Berryman.
Launched in January 1915, the Revenge-class battleship HMS Resolution was to enjoy a 33 year career during which she served in the Atlantic, home and Eastern Fleets as well as serving repeated spells in the Mediterranean, being both bombed and torpedoed along the way.
She is depicted off Gibraltar with HMS Wolverine, the destroyer perhaps best remembered for destroying the U-47 which sunk Resolution's sister ship Royal Oak in Scapa Flow.

 Wolverine
Wolverine was not born a warship; she was originally the barque-rigged Rattler, taken up from trade in 1797 and converted on principles espoused by Captain John Schank, the Dockyard Commissioner at Deptford.
Almost immediately Wolverine’s only mature midshipman, Furness, was killed outright and her Master severely wounded; Mortlock was shortly thereafter wounded in a finger and again in the breast, by a spent ball that had passed through a hammock but whose impact occasioned him immense pain.
The Wolverines tried their utmost, but with three pair of main shrouds, one fore and two mizzen shot away, enormous damage to her running rigging and with grape- and chain-shot through her sails, the Frenchman could sail faster than Wolverine with all she could set, and anyway was being lured onto a hostile shore.

The relatively low capital and operating costs of a HMS plant provides an opportunity to re-evaluate the mine plan and the possible inclusion of thin precious metals rich ores earlier in the mine schedule; and secondly, to undertake cost-benefit analysis of applying lower cost mining methods offset by slightly increased processing costs.

While the Wolverines were considerably larger and longer ranging than an Atocia, they were very nearly as agile and easily as fast.
While the Wolverines were fast and well armed, they lacked the heavy defenses and large Marine contingent of the heavy crusiers.
While the construction costs spelled the end of the Wolverine line after only 35 ships were built to the class, the robust structure and modular auxiliary systems led to an unusualy long combat lifespan.

For years was it believed that destroyer HMS Wolverine sank U-47 on 8 March, 1941 after depth charges attacks, but the Wolverine actually attacked Eckermann's U-A. Possible reasons for the loss of U-47 include mines, by its own torpedoes or by an attack by corvettes HMS Camellia & Arbutus.
On 9 March, the survivors in the lifeboat were spotted by a B-17 Fortress aircraft, which dropped first aid articles for them, but they were not rescued until 18 March, when they were picked up by corvette HMS Borage.
The corvette altered course to rendezvous with another corvette that had a doctor onboard & three of the survivors who were severely injured were transferred to her, to be taken to Gibraltar as quickly as possible.
