The Fraunhofer Society and construction firm Hochtief are jointly developing a building that will serve as a prototype and research lab for future buildings.
Once it has been completed (by mid-2008), the building will be flexible enough to take account of the "desires and needs of all kinds of users." In addition, the construction materials used will contain electronic components to provide information about insulation, explained a representative of Hochtief.
Fraunhofer is investing some 3.6 million euros in the project; Hochtief, around 4.3 million.

Construction company Hochtief AG said Wednesday that its U.S. unit has won the contract to build a new stadium for Major League Baseball's New York Yankees.
In a brief statement, Essen-based Hochtief said the deal was worth euro486 million (US$615 million) and construction, which has already begun, is expected to be finished in time for the 2009 season.
